Tell me about CZ Centerfire rifles

I like the look of the 550 American. A 6.5 x 55 should fit the bill.
I really don't know much about the gun, other than what I can read on their website.

If you do or have owned one, what did you think?
 
I wouldn't give my thumbs up for many boltguns esp. Euro ones, but the CZ line gets a full thumbs up, all wood and steel, like God intended. The walnut is plain, the bluing is average, but much more solidly built then Euroguns costing twice as much and made of plastic. I say go for it, make sure you know the trigger options!
 
I quite like my 527 Varmint in .223. I obviously lucked out on the wood.

They have nice single set triggers that can be easily adjusted to give a good pull either set or unset.
 
If you want smooth controlled feed, good quality, accuracy, walnut, nice bluing and a fully adjustable set trigger for a fair price then the CZ is for you. There are different stock and barrel options too. American, Lux, Kevlar and Varmint. Handle them all before buying is my best advice.

I don't think you'll find too many people that can fault them.
 
The CZs are amazing rifles. I have had over 5 of them (all in 223) if that says anything about how much I like them. Here is the current iteration that I have:

Not to burst the bubbles. IMO CZ is a well overpriced line of crap. When I look at their price tags I wonder why I should spend that much money on something like this instead of good American brands. The reason I said this is because I have first hand experience with CZ rifles in the field. CZ's reliability and durability is bar none -- the crappest.

If you go to Mongolia and ask around, between CZs and the American brand named rifles sold to the locals after North American hunters completed their hunting trips there, which ones are the most popular?
 
I have 2 CZ rifles in .22 caliber and a 6.5x55 Lux. My experience with all these rifles is very good - accurate out of the box, reliable Mauser action and a pleasure to shoot. My personal experience with these rifles is opposite to that of Rolingrock in every respect and I do not hesitate to recommend the CZ 6.5x55 to anybody.
 
I love both my 550 & my 527 Kevlar. I had a 550 in 30-06 which I sold and has been one of my most regretted sale of my life. I replaced it with a new mod 70 crf. but I miss that old CZ. My 550 is in .375 h&h and I've only put about 80 rounds through it so far but I have so much confidence with it already, I think I would use it in almost every situation.(Laugh if you want but have considered using it on white tail this fall...just kidding, or maybe not:)
My 527 is in 223 as well, and a tack driver. Close to 1000 rounds through and the action is smooth as butter. Great yote getter although a touch heavy. It unfortunately has no glass on it right now so it stays in the safe. Low on cash so gotta figure something out.
Anyway I have owned three,still got two and another is going to happen again sometime for sure. I think you'll be happy. Good luck. 375

You personally may have had a bad experience. However talk to people who work with their rifles and you'll find CZ is top of the pile, and if anything it's the North American brands that fail.

"overpriced"??? CZs aren't very expensive rifles. Unless you are comparing them to the Rem SPS line/Savage Stevens Line/etc. When you compare apples to apples a CZ 527 is not much more compared to a Remington CDL or other rifles. Where did Mongolia come from? Are you trying to say that they only hunt with American Brand rifles in Mongolia?
 
I had a love affair with the CZs, but the new winchesters sure are nice, and significantly cheaper. Eventually I'll pick up a 527 american in .223, but I've taken the 550 in 6.5x55 off my list....for now.
 
The 600 223/308 rifles are great. They come with two trigger options...normal and set trigger. Have used them for years without any problems. Stock finish needs to be oiled, as original is thin.
