Tell me about H414

I have a chance to buy several pounds of H414 for a decent price. I am wondering what this stuff is best for? I reload .223, x39, .308, .303B, .300WM, and .338LM as of now. Does this powder excel with any of those cartridges? Sounds like it is great for 215 .303 but other than that I'm not sure...

H414 is identical to Winchester 760. It would work fine in the 308 Win and 303 Br with bullets of 180 grains and heavier.
It will also work OK with a 150 or 165 in that 300 Win Mag. [not for maximum velocities, but very respectable] D.

I use mag primers for all ball powders regardless.

I think of it as a ball powder version of 4350. It meters perfectly and I use it to load plinker and hunting ammo where it is handy to just throw charges and not have to weigh each shot.

In process of experiencing different powder/primer combinations for the kissing cousin of the 308 - 7mm-08. (not really load development to speak of)

With W760 I am exceeding book value fps by over 50 with surprising accuracy regardless of large rifle primer, including magnum variety at entry level charge weights.

Haven't done any testing with the 303br we have, yet it performs no different against stick powders of 4064 and 4166 in my sons 303br for accuracy at temps above 10C. Can't speak to the other chambering's you list.

This powder looks promising for developing "lower" cost accurate ammunition with the added feature of good metering with the thrower I own for both calibers. After load development with OCW method the results are anticipated much as Ganderite states.

Just got to shoot some 270 loads with H414 yesterday.
Did some load development for my Dad. Shot 3 rounds each of 49, 50, 51, 52, 53 grain loads. All grouped very well. 53.5 is max load. 52 and 53 are starting to show pressure signs.
I know 270 isn't on your list but I was very happy with all 5 groups. Can't go wrong using any of the 5.
Unfortunately I don't have a chrono so no fps to support.

I use H-414 to get an optimum burn and precise barrel time (node) with 200gr bullets in a 30-06. Some say temperature sensitivity can be an issue, but I load for anticipated temperatures .

If you wish to use a mag primer, go ahead and do it, it won't hurt anything.
Nor will it be necessary, as Winchester 760 was on the market for fifty years before mag primers were in existence.

From the half assed research I have done it seems that loading near max is more important than a mag primer if you seek consistency. I tend to do both so I figure I will be good.

Used alot of H 414/W760 in my 7mm/08. Great powder and also very good with 55gr bullets in my 22/250

You need high-side pressure with it for sure, and mag primer is a must. Don't get too hot, observe load data, pressure gets squirrelly fast.
I like it in 30-06 for throwing hunting loads in short time, 165-190gr.
Also like it for fire forming 7x64/7RM with light bullets.
