Tell me about my Colt 1911 Oldie? (PICS. lots and BIG)

Ser No C

This pistol no has a C in front of the ser no and if you put a C in the no for the springfield research you get no info. Also if this pistol made 1912 the Colt Logo horse would have a circle around the horse.
Could be wrong.But thats what my book says.
Anyway very nice pistol, and what ever you do with it Do not have it refinished. keep it in a collector condition.There are all kinds of Forms ref 1911 who could tell you more info .And if you ever want to sell her give me a call.:)

C prefix means it was numbered in the Colt commercial serial number sequence. US govt contract 1911s had an No. prefix. 1914 prodn ran from C5400-C16600,proofhouse.com.

Imat, I have a 13### series Colt commercial manufactured in 1914.

Not to mention a 1912 mfg pistol wouldn't have a slide with the last patent date as 1913... ;)

I'd say later 1914 mfg pistol....

And the "JJ" initials stamped on the left side frame above the trigger bow are very often encountered on pistols that were at some point in Britain. I do not know the source or the significance of them, however.
 
Crown overV is a London commercial proofmark pre 1925 which should be accompanied by a crown over entwined GP on barrel. JJ mark appears on 1911s shipped to London Armoury Co.
 
Note in the pics that there is a patent date on the slide of August, 1913 so would assume that the slide at least was manufactured after that date and that the May, 1914 shipping date to London Armoury is much more likely.

The proofmark was made on any pistol being sold as "private purchase" by commonwealth officers if they did not want the issue Webley. The officers had to pay for thier own pistols. That one came back to Canada with the grandfather of a CGN member's now deceased best freind.
