I dont know very much about Lugers. A friend of mines father was a WWII vet and saw action in France, Italy and North Africa. He died a few years ago and my buddy took his guns. The only handgun he had was a 1940 Luger which for as long as I knew him his father had always told the same story as having taken the Luger from a soldier in France that he himself had "dispatched to hell to answer for his crimes." who knows what the real story is however it has a nice holster and "tool kit" with it. My friend recently remarried and needed to disppose of his guns. I purchased this from him last week for $300.

Those that know more than I.....please tell me a little about this gun.

From what I see it is a beautiful rig!! If all matching, this rig could find a buyer for $1500 in Canada! Congrats! Will post more later

Congratulations. That is a fine looking Mauser PO8. Is the mag in the holster an extra? Complete with loading tool the well marked holster is a great find all by itself - just needs a little TLC.

????

What kind of collector would pay $1500 for an obviously reblued prohib P.08 Luger???

Basically the only one worth LESS would be a 1917-1918 dated P.08

The holster & loading tool aren't worth that kind of cash....

Perhaps you may need a refresher in current market value? If it is reblued the value is lower, of course, but with P08 holsters selling for $400 USD and up, tools and matching mags would definitely be worth that kind of cash...even here in Canada. I am speaking from my own personal experience of buying and selling.
Not looking for an arguement with you, but I will stand behind what I know.
Nice rig:D

It is in good shape, in Germany you would earned much more than 400 CAN $ thats for sure. As I know reblued or not People over there pay for all together round about 1000 Euro that`s at this time now 1420 CAN Dollar.

Auwärter in Stuttgart is since 2005 Bankrupt. Last what they made was Busses. And it is the Capital of the Province Baden Württemberg.

Strangeday,

Nice late war rig !! Here's a bit of info if that may be of help...

Mauser produced ( 42 toggle code ) in 1940 ( chamber markings ) A popular late war P08 as production went up to 135 000+ pistols in 1940. Deep rich salt blue finish ( looking blue-black ), dark walnut thick grips with pronounced checkering, parts numbering in the miltary fashion ( last 2 digits SN on small parts ), Eagle 655 proofed receiver. Grips may be proofed & numbered on their underside...

Correct mags are the extruded body type with FXO markings. Could also be 122 marked, depending on the month of manufacture ( I have this info on file...)

Takedown tool marked E655....Brown 1940 dated holster is desirable as not that common & sought after by collectors...Auwarter, a populat maker in the late war years. Nice condition on the holster...

Late war Mauser P08s were very well made and in great demand by collectors !! ( they are my favorites...) Nice fit, finish, etc...A high grade ( 95% and up ) collector pistol rig would indeed fetch prices in the 1.5K + range as Joe pointed out....I stand behind him on that one !! Probably even more....

Congrats again on this nice rig !!

Mark
