Found an older Anschutz in .222 in a shop today. Overall I'd say easily 80% cond. Pencil barrel, wood stocked with raised cheek piece and flat forend. Nice looking wood. Crappy Tasco that looked abused. If I had to throw an age out there I'd say 30-40 years old on the rifle..
Didn't look down the barrel. Has a small action.
Price was very good, imho. This shop tends to blow out used guns. I turned one CGNer on to a 40X that they were asking $600.00 for.
Would this Annie be a good deal? Anyone an anschutz guru that could point me towards a few tips about them?
Thanks, Rob.

Depending on the barrel condition, I would think it would be a great shooter. Anschutz are known for their well built accurate rifles and the 222 is an inherit accurate round. If you can get it for a reasonable price scoop it up. You should be able to bargain a bit using the excuse of the antique hard to get 222 round, the reload the heck out of it and have fun on yotes and groundhogs.

"antique hard to get 222 round"? Well, OK, if it works for negotiating purposes.
These are accurate rifles. Use factory or factory equivalent ammunition. The action is akin to a .22 action on steroids. Don't hotrod handloads.

54 style action - the same action as their .22LR match rifles only center fire.
SUPER accurate even with those tiny barrels.
Mine has been a super shooter since the late 60's.
The stocks are made by Sile and are very well suited to that style of rifle.
BUY IT!!

I've never shot an Anschutz that I didn't like. I currently own 5. They are well made, accurate, functionally dependable. If it fits you and you like how it looks you won't be disappointed! Tiriaq is correct, because the Aschutz 54 action has a fairly simple rear lock up they do not have the same margin for error that some other .222 rifles do with with overloaded handloads. Feed it factory ammo or moderate handloads and you will have a good rifle that will outlast you.

Guys its a steal of a price I think, just this dang f'n financial boat I'm in this close to christmas just has me gunshy on pulling the wallet out. If anyone is serious to buy it its $500.00 and at General in Windsor. 519-250-8048 or 258-8048 I don't feel like looking it up but one of those numbers is right.

I looked at that gun, it is nice but the butt stock has been cut...shortened by about an inch. It is done well and hard to notice, but it is definitely shortened. The wood is basic and I believe it comes with a tasco scope with an interesting reticle. Besides the cut stock, I would say that it is in 85% condition, priced very fair.

I have only owned one model 54 Anschutz,a 22 Hornet that has earned a place in my gun lockup by averaging sub 1/2" five shot groups. The bolt lockup looks a little weak compared to other designs, but I can't argue with the accuracy,
