there are a number of rifles I'm considering...some of you may be familair with my threads on large calibre's and single shot rifles. well, there's also a .44 mag Puma in SS that has my eye.

It feels really nice in my hands and I liked it a lot more then the Marlin .44 mag...I just hear there are quality control issues with Rossi rifles and they're often a hit/miss scenario, so I'm wondering what I should look for to know if it's a good one or not.

I will mention two others that have my eye...one of the M14/S that have become available recently and then a CZ 527 FS in 22 Hornet. I'll probably get them all eventually...I just don't know what I want first.

so anyhow, back to Puma rifles...

puma

Ive owned 3 of them, well made, pretty darn close to the original, a few sharp edges for a new gun, this is worse especially in the larger calibres, butt plate kills ya and the lever digs into your hand, my one of my .44's actually cracked the front stock from the recoil of the barrel band digging into the wood.Nice gun for casual shooting

Mone is in 45 colt. took a while to find a load it really likes but it is great & accurate. It will take some heavy loads so is great for bush & close range deer gun. It is also a fun gun just to shoot. :) AJ

Puma .454 Cassull

I have a Puma 92 in .454 Cassull. It's a great little gun. I got the 16" SS version for a saddle gun. The wood wasn't the greatest, so I put a bit of work into rounding some edges, improved the fit, refinished it. I also took out the safety, I just use the half #### notch. Last thing I did was put some sights from a Marlin Guide Gun on it, I like them way better than the originals. I guess I didn't really need to do any of this, but I don't own a single gun I that I haven't modified. I enjoy that part of it.

So overall, great little gun for a truck gun or horseback use, but the finish wasn't the best I've seen. At least not on mine

I've got the stainless 44mag and overall it's a nice handy rifle. Fit and finnish on mine is fairly good, at least it doesn't cause any loss of sleep for me. Mine does shoot a little high even at the lowest setting for the rear sight, I've kinda put this gun on the back burner for a couple months so haven't tinkered with alternate sights etc. As others have mentioned the steel buttplate kicks like a mother f'er as bad as red line 45/70 rounds in a Marlin GG.

The Puma rifles are excellent. The kick of a mule is the way it is supposed to be like the originals. Mine are for Cowboy action shooting. 45 Colt and 44 Mag/Special. Really nice. great price.

I have a 16inch in .357 and a 20inch in 44-40. Love them both, very fun to shoot and I have read that they can take a sh!t load of pressure so if you reload they can be a very versatile hunting rifle.
