Tell me about Sig P210

OK, let me clarify - polished wood finish and dull oil finish were available from the factory. High gloss lacquered finish was never delivered for the duration of army contract.
High gloss finished ones as we can observe lately on many recently imported P49 (A - army contract) are not original to the gun. Those are replacement arsenal grips that have been lacquered by supplier in order to make gun more appealing. Not even centennial civilian models would ever receive such finish.

Gloss finished with horizontal grooved pattern were fitted to early examples of both A (Swiss Army Pistole 49/ P49 from the first two contracts 1st contract delivered in 1949, from serial A100001 to A103200, 2nd contract delivered in 1950-1951, from serial A103201 to A107210. Also manufactured were P prefixes (civilian / commercial pistols) from the same year range wearing the same gloss horizontal grooved grips.

The third contract (delivered in 1952, from A107211 to A109710) was the transition period from the gloss finished pistol to the dull finish (or dash 2 in civilian form) black walnut grips, at that time the horizontal grooved gloss wood grips were progressively changed to the checkered plastic ones, some pistols were fitted with checkered oiled finished black walnut grips but mostly for parade or ceremonial purposes since the plastic grips was more durable for field and training use and cheaper to manufacture.

I'm not talking about re-laquered to a high gloss finish grip panels but bear in mind that Sig Neuhausen am Rheinfall also deivered P210's with gloss finished grips through out the years they manufactured the P210 in various dash numbers.

This P210-1 was manufactured in 1978 (the 125th anniversary of the Neuhausen am Rheinfall Sig factory). The factory blued finish is like black chrome, just like the anniversary models made that year, it's one of the most polished P210 I've seen. The grips are factory and the grain of the walnut is beautiful. This one have both 7.65 Para and 9mm barrels and recoil springs assembly.

It is also assembled and marked by Hämmerli (shows the "H" target hammer assembly and fine tuned "T" marked slide). Since Sig bought Hämmerli in 1973, all post '73 and pre '84 P210's bearing those marks exhibit exceptional fit and finish.
