Tell me about the Ithaca 49 saddlegun!

Following my thread in which I want something smaller and lighter to lug around the woods, I got really intrigued by the Ithaca 49 saddlegun (single-shot, not the repeater version which had many problems from what I could read) that someone mentioned. I'd like to know more about it!

I was wondering what owners thought of the gun?

Also, does anyone have a PDF of the takedown instructions by any chance?

Edit: I almost forgot, I also wanted to know what the receiver as well as the barrel band was made of? Are they aluminum?
 
I'll dig-up the "takedown-specs" for the '72...they should be the same....:)

I have one, I love the falling block lever combo, and having to #### the hammer to fire gives it a good measure of safety. I can't say how accurate it is as I've not spent much time shooting it. The guy I bought it off of actually CUT the rear stock to shorten the pull, I thought WTF! but still bought it. A few months later at the range a older gentleman looked at the little rifle and says,, "I have the wood for one of those, took me forever to figure out what rifle it was for." not loving the cut and re-glued stock I asked how much?? 30.00 dollars, sold. Turned out to be for a fancier model, maybe the .22 wmr, nice checkering too. I'll try to find a little time to shoot some paper and see how straight it shoots, if you see one grab it, .22 levers can be pricey but these are reasonable.

If you still have that piece of wood, I might be interested in it! Provided you didn't throw it in the fireplace ;-)

I'll be using the sawn off butt stock with reduced pull to teach my boys, much like the fellow did that I bought it off. Then replace the full length one, will keep it all as set, maybe they will teach their kids with it some day too. If I didn't have the kids I'd mail it to you in heart beat. P
