Tell me about the SIG's

The 229 has roughly the same grip as the 228, the 228 is to me one of the best 9mm's ever made, for handling, balance, size efficiency, accuracy - you name it the 228 has it. If you're comfy with the HP you'll be fine with the 229, but the 226 may feel like a 2x4 (it does to me)

The 228 is a short barrel single stack, its been discontined, I think you can get a restricted length barrel for them. Norinco makes a restricted 228 clone.

Actually it's a short barrel double stack. They are discontinued in the US but still available in Europe (don't know why). Basically the slide looks like the 226 slide instead of the 229 slide, but the pistol is the same size as the 229.It also is missing the "accessory rail" and has a smooth dust cover. For some reason they managed to reshape the grip on the 228/229 and make it much more comfortable (to me) than the 226. Barrels should be available for the 228, but you won't get a new one unless you're very lucky.
