Tell me about the Tikka T3X

Ok, so I am very set on the T3x Battue but I am in a complete toss up between the wood or synthetic.

On one hand the wooden T3x Battue in 30-06 would be a great rifle. All the guys I moose hunt with use wood and blued steel guns, very classic. The wooden stocked Battue in 30-06 would help soak up any extra recoil of the 30-06? We hunt in very adverse weather conditions one day it can be 24 degrees and sunny and the next 5 degrees and pouring rain. To top it all off we bring our guns inside at the end of the day to a wood fire heated cabin. I have seen a few guns split wooden stocks due to this weather and temperature changes.

On the other hand their is the T3x Battue lite with the synthetic stock and I think I would pick this in .308. Its lighter with the synthetic stock and the .308 would have a tiny bit less recoil matching this lightweight rifle. This would likely be my one rifle for hunting, self defense, SHTF or survival and .308 or 7.62x51 gets the nod for bulk ammo in a survival situation. Tikka synthetic stocks are really good quality I have read so I'm not expecting this to be a cheap flimsy stock.

OMG decisions decisions....... The rational sensible thing to do would be to pick the synthetic .308 but there is something about a Walnut stocked 30-06 that will always hold special place in my heart and be an heirloom one day...

What do you guys think????

Do what I did. Buy either one....wood or synthetic....then buy the other stock. They are often for sale very reasonably on gunnutz. Then you get the best of both worlds. Synthetic for the nasty days, wood for the nice ones.

That is exactly what I did with my last Battue, bought the synthetic version and picked up a nice walnut stock off the EE. When I “foolishly “ sold my Battue I kept the wood stock. Now I’m on the hunt for another Battue

There is one advantage to t3's that other rifles struggle with. If one beds a T3 stock properly then any other T3 can be used in the stock. In other words it really gets good if you have a few T3's/T1X that can swop around in original or aftermarket stocks. I have two aftermarket stocks at the moment and a T3 308 CTR, 223 T3 Lite with AI mag system and the T1X. I can use any rifle in any stock. The CTR floorplate inlet will take most other T3/T1X trigger guards but you might have a small gap on the sides.
