So I got these 2 savage lever guns left to me along with a pile of dominion/imperial/CIL ammo.
Rifle 1 I'm keeping as an open sight deer rifle. It's a very good condition model 99 in 300 savage. Heavy but I rather like how it balances out. Serial # puts it as made in 1950. I like the faded bluing in the areas that it was carried in the hand. Cool rifle, a keeper, along with 200 or so rounds of vintage CIL hunting ammo in appropriate grain weights for hunting. Pics when I get home tomorrow.
Rifle 2 is pretty cool and when i searched for gun values, the only canadian listing was in the 1500 ballpark. U.S. examples showed similar values 650 to 1500 usd.
It is a savage 1899 H , takedown in 22HP (22savage). It's a little more worn from use, some stock damage but holy crap is it nice to shoot LOL and accurate. If I had a use for it, I'd have no hesitation shooting it all the time. Hard to believe is was made in 1914. This rifle I might sell or trade at some point so any info I can glean would be cool. The other detractor is the former owner electro pencilled his sin# or DL # on the rifle in a pile of places
so totally takes away it's collector potential. Oh well, cool find nonetheless. It also came with several boxes of the CIL/imperial 70gr psp ammo, which was quite accurate and virtually no recoil. Fun rifle.
Not being a lever gun guy, what can you guys tell me about them?
And yes, a useless thread without pics... I promise, they're coming LOL
