Hello CGN,

I had this unusual BRNO ZKK 600 come to me and I can't seem to find any information on this rifle. It was made in 1973 in the zbrojovka factory, is marked BRNO zkk 600, has a pop up peep sight. a set trigger and removable front sight. Here is the wrinkle, its 9.3 x 64 Brennekke. After 3 hours of digging around I could not find a single copy of this rifle online. It also has a auspicious serial number 31111. Can someone tell me about this rifle please and thank you.

I’m no expert but it certainly looks factory to me. First time I’ve seen one of those. Awesome rifle

Edited to add: with a quick google I found a few references of zkk-600s in 9.3x64 on the nitro express and Africa hunting forums so they’re definitely out there...apparently fairly common in europe.

I did find the same post, they only mention the rifle in brennekke. I looked into the history of the zkk 600 and it seems they were not made in this caliber. I believe the bolt and action on this rifle must be larger than the zkk 600 which houses the 30-06 family. Is it possible they put the wrong model number on a 602? or made a one off? the one off theory might explain the unusual serial number.

The 64 can fit in a 600 or any other 3006 (7.62x63) length action no problem, just requires the bolt face opened up and probably feed rail work. FN built factory sporters in 9.3x64 as well on regular Mauser actions.

Dig a little deeper. A fellow named Joel dorleac (of dorleac & dorleac in France) provides some info on their commonality. Found another reference to a guy in Spain with one as well.

I wish I could tell you anything other than it looks perfect, caliber, length, sights.... send it to me I will inspect it carefully and get back to you ASAP......

Here’s one identical to yours for sale in France for 390 euros.

Have a look at what dorleac says about zkk-600s in 9.3x64 here

It looks good.
It has the 9.3x64 stamp on the follower. Mine is a 602 with those same features, but with longer bbl.
One thing I have seen over the years with the BRNOs (and I have dealt with many) they do have cross over parts and models from time to time.
A ZG47 with an old style lever safety,.... a 600 factory stock with a cheek riser.... they may all exist due to special orders or cross over model lines using up old parts.
Did you have it out of the stock? Does it have a front bbl recoil lug like a 602 or just the front bbl bushing and screw in the forearm?
As an aside, I do not shoot the x64 as much as I do the x74 and x62 as I do not think it gives you much more in performance in real life hunting.

Good point regarding crossover parts/features. Early Brno 21/22's had leftover WWII vintage Kreigsmodell bolts, final production year 1955-56 had ZG-47 bolts and/or safeties and/or triggers. Mid production models came with turned down round bolt handles as a factory option as well as single or single-set triggers. Some early round top models also came with claw mounts installed.

Have you fired the rifle yet? Looks like it’s in amazing shape. I always wanted one of those 600/602 with the pop up peep.

Far shot, did you say you have a factory 602 in 9.3x64? Interesting they would build them on both actions.

I went down a bit of a 9.3x64 wormhole last night and found out that Russia chambers it in their dragunov sniper rifles using armour piercing ammo. Kinda neat

Yes I do. (If my memory is correct --- I would need to confirm 600 vs 602 now that I think about it)
It is a relatively powerful round and the 602 was in 300 win as well.
I do not think the 300 win was offered in the 600 line.

I think I’ve seen a 602 on the net in 358 norma as well. Kind of a pig of an action for a 300/358, imo.
