IF legal in your area, bait them with expired livestock. setup a trailcam if you can.

If they are in the area the Coyote will make scarce also.

Get an E-Caller or hand caller and do some howling after 10 PM at night to see if you get some responses.

I've spent a lot of years working in the Canadian bush. I've seen 2 wolves. One in the NWT and one in NW Ontario. I've seen tons of tracks but I'm pretty sure that they're good at keeping out of sight.

You're right, often heard, but seldom seen, and the occassional track.
When I first started avidly hunting upland game in the Ottawa Valley quite a few years back, at dusk wolves were always shadowing us.
On the logging trails if one stopped at a corner & looked back, thier greyish forms were almost always there keeping a close eye on us, as the late afternoon autumn sun was setting.
In November 1988, I actually shot one in that area, with my then brand new 788 in 222 calibre. Got the provincial bounty from the Petawawa Township office.

Last year is the first time I've met one close up since 1988 here in the Cold Lake area. At 35 yards & all I had was a 20 gauge with #6 shot. Again this wolf was following my trail as I was small game hunting.

Seen one near Conklin (north-west of here) on a dirt road about 4 years ago, but I don't count it as I was driving in a 4x4 truck.

The wolf in the NWT followed me for the day too. Kept well back, almost a km but a couple of times when I looked behind me I'd catch a glimpse of his white coat as he went to cover on the flat tundra. He just wanted to know what I was and what I was doing in his territory.

I haven't heard anyhitng about wolves in hte Brooks area and I am just up thte road. in the few years I have been hunting I have seen 7, the 3 the first time and 4 the second time. Both times stumbled across them early morning on a fresh kill. Fantastic creatures. If they start showing up at you place PM me and we'll go out and see if we can find them

I have third hand information that it is said, if you want a wolf pack to bugger off toot-sweet, kill the alpha male.

If you kill either of the Alpha's it will cause a population explosion as other subordinates will start breading and have multiple litters, soo I've heard.

Not really. I was alone and unarmed but he never tried to come close. If anything I had to really whip around quickly just to catch a glimpse of the wily bugger.

Geologists traverse into the wind whenever possible to try to keep the flies from eating your face so he was following my scent and feeling very confident.

Really only 2??? Weird I see over 20 every year though many are the same ones when I'm at work. I shot 3 last winter only recovered 2 though. Wolves are sneaky and will trail you for a long distance. The packs have grown quite large up here in Northern BC.
