Ok Gang,

I got lots of restricteds (handguns only), and far too many non-restricteds. I keep looking at these M4 builds and think, "jeez, I would sure like me one of them". But I just can't think of a good reason to buy one...

I of course already have my RPAL and have to dealing with this ATT for about 10 years like most of you, so I guess thats not a detterent. I guess what I am saying is, I cant think of a reason NOT to buy one. But I also can't think of a compelling reason to buy one.

Can someone convince me that this is a must have rifle. Is this the rifle that I buy and say, "holy sh!t, why did I wait so long". I mean, there must be something to these things, cause they sell like hot cakes and theres a crazy amount of info and parts avaliable.

I should mention. My price range would keep me around the Norc's.

Tell me what you got. Inspire me to pull out the VISA :D

Just get it, you'll love it. I love mine. It is pretty cool to see an AR in the movies, then to think," I own one of those!!". I also enjoy getting my friends into the shooting sports, and to do that, you have to make the first trip exciting, if it's not, they won't take up the sport. My AR has turned a bunch of people onto the sport. Don't get me wrong, pistols work as well, but an AR is the cherry on top.

You can always change it once you acquire more funds, such as a short barreled upper, different flash hiders, different handguards, different buttstocks, all if various colors, etc. etc. It literally is a barbie doll for adults. I consider that a good thing, you can turn your original AR, into a dozen other AR's in various sizes and colors.

Here's mine, this pic is old, I have double the amount of accessories now.Mostly from Brownells. That place is a treasure trove for AR lovers.

The first AR15 I bought was a Norc CQ311. The old 1:12 twist pencil barrel M16 clones. After my first trip to the range shooting it I said.. Hmm.. so that's what all the fuss is about. Compared to shooting 30 cals, 22LR and 12 gauge shotguns all my life up until that point, the AR15 was a world apart. Then, I promptly sold my Norc and hopped on the Colt AR15 Kool-aid bandwagaon.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I am intersted in this NEA AR, but I am having a tough time locating pics and specs. I read on another thread that you can pre-order them in 4 different barrel lengths, is this true. If so, what lengths are avaliable and where can find out more about them?

I am a picture guy, what can I say. Like any man, I SEE something i must have, and then I MUST have it. I am thinking about a 12" upper would be primo

Specs are here, pics are top secret at the moment:

I believe that I know all the publicly released info and then some and my recommendation is this: wait for the NEA release...they are doing a 12.5" AR that will satisfy your wants cheaper and better than any other readily available option.

Have a read through the whole thread and keep this in the back of your head: NEA are scrappy mother####ers who don't always avoid stepping on toes, but they design and build for serious users and their gear sees a lot of action around the world. They are partnered up with Troy and down in the US, some of the Troy gear you buy is really NEA gear with a Troy stamp on it.

So you can always swing by a big US forum and just ask, "hey, as a brand...how is Troy? Quality stuff that you can trust or hobby-grade toy parts?"

I predict you will get lots of the former, and little of the latter...

I am always extremely hesitant to either a) jump bandwagons or b) fly the "a" model of anything...but in this case, I'm suspending my usual skepticism (based largely on my experience with other NEA equipment and some fairly lengthy technical discussions with NEA themselves).

Give it a few weeks, then buy the NEA when they are released for Canadian civilian use.

If you're going to get a black rifle, then the AR is a must have. It's hard to explain. On paper they aren't perfect, I know they have their detractors but they are just so much fun to shoot. They can be made into anything you want, from a short barrel CQB rifle to a long range precision rifle. They look cool, handle great, are fun to shoot and are accurate. It also takes about 10 seconds or less to figure out how to work one. After you've been shown it once, it feels like you've used one all your life. Again not perfect but always fun.

If you get a chance at the range to try a buddies, I can guarantee you'll be hooked. I know I was.
