Tell my wife I'm in love with a little blond Swede?

Hey, I'm taking out my "new" Swedish Mauser M1896 (Carl Gustav 1911) tomorrow. I'm using Remington 140 grain SP expanding ammo. Just for the firing range though.

My question is this: I placed a 6.5X55 deactivated round into the chamber and let it fall down by gravity as far as it could but I noticed that the cartridge stuck out by about an inch or half an inch or so from the breech. Is this normal? I had the bolt out and did not try to chamber it. I am not familiar with Mausers. Should it have dropped all the way in or do I just push it in with the bolt? I can't recall for sure but I thought the rounds just dropped into my Mosin Nagant or Lee Enfield breech. They do in my M-1 Garand and M-14S at least.

Makes me think the chamber area is dirty. Get a good look in there.

You can easily unscrew the back of the bolt so that the spring and firing pin are removed. With the bolt removed from the rifle, pull back on the end so it clears the bottom notch and rotate it counter clockwise. It will unscrew right apart. I hate to tell you to chamber a live round, an empty case would be better, but I do it with no firing pin on my bolt to give hunting ammo a final test.

Cool, I'll try that out. BTW does anyone know the PSI of Remington's 140 grain SP?

Not sure of the PSI, but if you contact Remington they can tell you.
I have read that all of the ammo makers load on the lighter side for this caliber to keep the pressue down.

1944 Husky

Great deal ! I picked one up myself last week, just to let you know only 2000 of these rifles were made in that year ! Good year to have! 1944.

Thanx for the info. :)

It was. :D

Got her home today, and took a few pics.
BTW: I was wrong about the date on the rifle...it says it is a 1942 Husky...

Hardly wait to try her out...posting a few pics later, can't figure out my picture program right this second.

I had a good look at the bore today, and a closer look at her overall.
If all goes to plan she should be in my gunsafe by Friday, and at the range soon after. (once I find ammo) :D

I did notice that the muzzle has some sort of threaded end...what was that for?

I just picked one of these up, so here's a better idea of how they were used............. :)
