Tell your Savage 24 successes

So I just bought yet another Savage 24 . This one is 222/20 ga with the intention of using it for coyotes in a couple spots where it could be a 20 yard shot in brush or a 100 yrd fence line shot. So yet another Savage 24 for me. At least until I try to mount a scope for my changing eyes and the comb will be to low and I'll sell yet another one.

So I'm curious to know what medium size game has been taken with a 24. ?
Any deer, bears or a moose ?
what kind of accuracy are they capable of ?

I think the 22/.410 is a great carry for a bush stroll for small game but they are made in 30-30/20 so who's used the 30 cal on bigger game. ?

I'm curious to hear your stories.

My brother gave me one in 22 over 20 gauge. The shotgun barrel would not fire. I first tried a new fireing pin and no luck so took it apart. The rod in the middle of the spring had a bend in it. Straightened it out and it works now. He never asked for it back and haven't seen him in 10 years. I like it just for the novelty of having two choices.
 
Was at the garbage dump (old school throw your own garbage out non observed one) and there was a strange looking stock sticking up out of a box. Closer examination showed there was a Model 24 receiver attached to it. Ten feet away was the barrel. Never found the forend, but it is still a great find. If anyone else wants to throw guns out let me know. I'll even pick them up.

Last Savage 24 I owned had the lousiest trigger of any gun I ever owned. After being worked on couldn't get it down below about 9 lbs. It was a .22 rf over 20 gauge. The stock was set up for a scope so the 20 ga. was almost impossible to shoot without breaking your cheekbone. Can't say enough bad about them!

I guess that's why people are paying $500-600+ at gun shows for them. :p

I have owned a 24H-DL in .22/20ga. for 45+ years, used it every year for chicken and bush partridge, and sometimes for gopher defense. I managed to scoop another DL in .22WMR and 20 ga to keep old faithful company. I would love to find a DL in 30-30/20ga. :)

Same for me.

I really like the idea of them, but after handling one for five minutes I want to get rid of them. Only had 22/410, and 223/12ga ones

Success....I always made money on them:)
 
I have the Braikal IZH-94 in 30-06/12G and really like that. I've never been a big Savage fan of any kind but that's just me. I think they feel junky.
 
Still my favourite shotgun 22/410. Like the short barrel, easy to handle in dense bush country when scrambling around. Mine is circa 60's (no serial # which Savage told me meant pre 64) and I find the new ones look like toys. Nice wood and overall look on this old girl is quality. I currently use a 16 sxs for chickens but am always looking for an excuse to bring the Savage along. Excellent all around camp/bush gun. I always have some slugs in the stock cartridge holder, they have a fair amount of punch at short range.
 
I had a .22/20 ga. I found that it was way too heavy and the 20 ga barrel too tightly choked for upland game shooting. It was a good squirrel gun though - plink them in the head if they were sitting or shotgun them if they were moving.
 
I pack two guns. If I am out for a drive for grouse/rabbit I have the 22lr and .410. when I am big game hunting. I have my rifle and I bring the 410, sits on the quad rack or in the back seat of the truck. also fits in my gun scabbard in my pack. Its a H&R pardener compact. best gun for me
