the seller has read this, figured its worth more and now.... can't finish writing this,it would be to lousy if it was true.I'm sure it will work out & can't wait to see the pics.
 
This is, in my opinion, one of the finest production rifle designs and execution ever built in a factory. Possibly THE best ever. It has all the features of a custom medium bore for 1/4 the cost. The drop belly magazine holding 5 rounds under, all in blued steel, the finely scalloped barrel band front sight, NOT like the clunkly thing on a Ruger, rounded and tapered barrel band sling swivel, solid quarter rib c/w 2 leaf express sights, wide open wrist, shadow line cheeckpiece, cast off stock.............where can you get a custom medium bore built like this for $2500?

Hey Looky, I agree that there are some other fine rifles out there and S&L are definitely one of them, the new Win supergrade is another well made fine rifle, but I was specifically talking about a purpose built med bore rifle for dangerous game. It has all the features that the med bore evolved into as being the quintessential dangerous game bolt action rifle.

In the used market it is a pretty good deal - if you can find one. But when they were new I felt the price - for me anyways - was much too high. The cost of a new Safari Grade was more than 3x what I paid for my new FinnFiber in .338 WM. Also a new Sako 85 Safari runs +$10,000 and for that price a fellow could probably snag a basic Reimer Johannsen or similar. That was kind of my thought nack in the day. I am sure you recall those days - about 25 years ago - the Finnfiber was just under $1000, a Steyr-Mannlicher Luxus S was $2400 or so, a Sauer 90 Luxus was similar and the Sako Safari was about $3200 iirc. They were very pricey for a factory rifle.

Another way to look at it is you can get a CZ Express Rifle or Magnum Express rifle for $3000-$3500 - the same as your rifle was 25 years ago!

I wouldn't compare the Winchester to your Sako.

They shoot about the same at 100yards. Sub MOA.

I on the other hand wouldn't even place the new Sako in the same room as the Sakos I have, the L61R, the AV, the short action Sako/Browning, or my new A IV Safari. The FN Win is a beautiful rifle particularly in the supergrade variation, but still in a different class than the Safari, as they are built for different purposes, with different features.

I don't think tomjones is familiar with the old AV Safari.
