Terminus Zeus any good?

With the Zeus quick change action, you can order prefit barrels, meaning that a gunsmith never has to have both the barrel and the action to do custom fitting on the barrel.

I will be honest these Zeus actions really look like a good thing. I think my next rifle will be a custom build and this is a big contender.

I would love to have the ability to go from 6.5 Prc to 300 RCM or 338 RCM just by swapping barrels. An it would likely cost the same or less then buying two rifles.

Or with the addition of a second bolt it would be super easy to have any caliber you want.

I'm not sure I believe you... reference?

Many gunsmiths do it.

You can also do the same for Kelblys, Zermatt/Bighorn, Lone Peak, Impact, ARC, Defiance (for certain models without options that change headspace), etc. Hell, gunsmiths are doing it for Tikka's even.

The tolerances on all these actions are tight enough that shouldered prefits can be made without the gunsmith seeing the action. It's been a capability of Kelbly actions since the 90's.

Kthomas is correct. Many actions out there take prefits that don’t require a smith to every lay there hands on your action. Now a lot of smiths still prefer to fit direct to each action if they’ve never seen one but doesn’t mean they can’t do it without the action. The only difference is you need an action wrench and barrel vise and you install it yourself with those tools plus a torque wrench. The Zeus makes it easy on there qc system to eliminate those tools. But you can order the Zeus without and then you’d have to torque the barrels down anyways.

It's a Curtis action. I've shot over a 1000 rounds through a Curtis and was very happy with it. I don't see how the Terminus would be any different.

I also don't think the lift is all that bad, especially when compared to a Cadex 4 lug.

The quick change barrel is a nice feature.

The owner of Terminus (who designed the actions for Curtis) used the same general action more or less, but with added improvements. There's also better end quality, QA/QC and customer service from Terminus, unless Curtis has really stepped their game up lately.

The Curtis/Terminus design is an excellent platform. The quick change barrel is a bit different than most as it doesnt require a barrel vice or torque wrench and is quite a bit easier and faster. We are the Curtis dealer and have done well over 250 builds on them. They have been excellent to deal with and we can offer prefits. We also stock and carry any warranty or consumables like bolt stops, ejectors and extractors. We are a full warranty facility in Canada. (no exporting nonsense). The newest version has made changes since the Vector/Zeus that improves mag timing, feed ramps and extraction timing. I do favour a 3-lug over conventional 2-lugs and both offerings are only slightly higher bolt lifts that traditional two lug option. However with the weight of the PRS builds, it isnt an issue. You will see that several of the top PRS/NRL competitor all won the PRS and AG finales with the Curtis Valors. Either choice is and excellent option. Both have oversized bolts that do require some knowledge on timing your magazine/mag latch and chassis. This is a function of mag timing and nothing to do with your action. Guns arent lego and a good smith is always worth the chamber rate to put a gun together regardless of the $150 you think you may save on a prefit.

I can’t list my business, but Im sure I am easy enough to find. I would say take a Curtis or Terminus over any of the two lug offerings. The KS actions are also one of the nicer offerings on the market. We have done several builds on those. Likely the single nicest coating I have personally seen.

As far as any comments about QC, I only see guys make statements like that who have seen one action. We literally put out 100+ per year and are one of the largest dealers globally. If there was a QC issue, we would have dropped them like a hot potato. We are pretty open about piss poor product lines. Our name depends on it.

hi guys

I am in the process of a new built. the terminus is in my choices, do someone know a detailer in Canada? or do we have to bring it directly from the terminus?

the curtis valor is one of my choices, as well as the impact 737r and the zeus. What interests me specifically of the Zeus is the quick barrel change.

The Zeus has some nice features.

Another great push feed action to consider is the Lone Peak Fuzion. Doesn't have a "quick change" feature though - but it's easy to change barrels with a couple of tools.

The Zeus is a copy of the older Curtis Vector. The new Valor has some timing improvements, magwell cut for AI and AW with a hard stop for perfect feeding, and a larger ejection port. The Valors are all quick change setups as well. Plus EM Precision will be able to supply you with prefit barrels whenever needed.
The Impact is a nice action as well and a vice and wrench is all that is needed. EM can supply that and prefits for the Impact as well.

The Terminus Zeus has many improvements over the original/older Curtis Vector. It's not a "copy", but a continuation and evolution of design of the product from the person that designed the original Curtis Valor. The person who designed the original Curtis actions left that company and started Terminus because he "was unwilling to compromise on my demanding standards and fundamental business practices" (Joel Russo's words).

So no, the Terminus Zeus is not a "copy" of the old Curtis Valor. That's disingenuous.

I'm not interested in turning this into a Terminus vs. Curtis thread (though I know which one I would pick of the two). I have no dog in the fight. I don't own either action, nor do I have any vested interest in either company. But lets keep the facts straight.

Here is an example of some improvements on the Terminus Zeus:

- Bolt body diameter reduced to 0.725" (from 0.750"), to improve feeding reliability
- Threaded trigger pins (not sure why everyone doesn't do this)
- Magwell is cut for both AICS and AW mags
- Mag catch to prevent over insertion of mags (which was an issue with Curtis)
- DLC surface treatment
- etc, etc, etc
