************************* UPDATE IN POST 39 **************************************

I bought a brand new Sig M400 Enhanced in July, today was my 3rd time out to the range with it and I am just so disgusted with it and I don't know what to do.

First time I had it to the range I was running iron sights, wasn't really paying much attention to accuracy... shoot about 100 rounds.

Second time to the range I have mounted an aimpoint on it...really can't get it to group @50 yards, try the 50 yard sight in at 10 yards still have lots of flyers not grouping at all...shoot about 100 rounds.

Fast forward I get a nice 1-4x scope mounted and hit the range with it, groups @50 yards are terrible 8"-10" flyers maybe get 1 or 2 shots within an inch of each other. Again try the 50 yard sight in at 10 yards, terrible grouping at even at 10 yards, thing should be throwing bullets through the same hole at this range. I am also shooting the whole time from a bench. I get my friend to try it out, he gets same results. Not the scope this is the second one on here, also I am not a new shooter I know how to mount a scope everything is tight and I tried 2 different types of ammo today PMC and AE.

So 300 rounds down the pipe and I am very disappointed. I love this gun though, looks, feel, balance and ergos. The accuracy is worse than the crappiest rustiest SKS though, I am fairly new to the AR game so what are my options is there anything I should be checking????? I am pretty frustrated.

first order of business would be giving the rifle a thorough cleaning, followed by proper lubing. make sure the chamber ends up dry after you are done. check the muzzle device for alignment, gently insert a cleaning rod from breech and see that it is properly centered in the muzzle device. if it checks out, remove the muzzle device and check the crown for damage or an improperly machined and finished crown. while the muzzle device is off, fire a few rounds to verify the muzzle device isn't the cause of the problem. report back.

I've got the same rifle....no issues at all. I get about 1.5" when I zero from prone with my aimpoint micro. No disrespect but have u ruled out shooter error?

EDIT: sorry I just saw you had 2 shooters with same results. Have you tried different ammo or even checked the muzzle device or crown for any obvious large burrs? Kind of a long shot as 300 rnds would have taken care of burrs by now.

can you slug the bore? (that is push a pure lead slug through the bore and then measure it with a micrometer)
next step would be to examine the bore through a borescope.

As stated - muzzle device, crown and barrel. If those check out (which I suspect something won't), dig deeper and look at barrel fitment to the upper receiver

LoL @ twist rate.

Did you do any upgrades to freefloat the barrel like new handguard? My buddy has a stock M400 and no surprise, trying to shoot it off a bag that's supporting the handguard meant okay to big groups depending on how much weight was on the rifle deflecting the barrel. It sure didn't take much pressure to affect the point of impact.

First of all, did you clean the barrel before shooting it? If there is oil in the barrel and you shoot the rifle without removing the oil, it will be burnt into the rifling and the accuracy will go to garbage. You will need to scrub it until it is all gone.

Look down the barrel, make sure you don't see any big dark patches - those will be the burnt oil.

Post some pics of your setup

Here it is, only thing that I have added is a raptor charging handle, mount and optic. I doubt it's just something cleaning can solve as I cleaned it before I shot it and clean it after every trip but I will clean it again and take a look at the muzzle.

There is something seriously wrong here. Even a smooth bore would get much better groups than that. None of the usual suspects apply here. You should have at least a one year warranty on this rifle. Send to back for a replacement or your money. I wouldn't expend any more ammo on this turkey.

Figured it was being supported by the handguard. Wouldn't take much pressure to deflect the point if impact. Get it off the sled and try supporting the rifle off a mag ie short LAR mag.

Noting sticks out as wrong. Charging handle has nothing to do with it. Like others have said check the muzzle for abnormalities also check the birdcage for bullet strikes. Also give a tug and a push on the barrel and see if you have any movement between it and the upper. Inspect the bolt lugs while you're at it.

+1

With those kind of symptoms, I would stop shooting it immediately and get it looked at under warrantee. There is something seriously wrong, and from what you describe my first suspicions are a loose barrel nut. If it has been fired with a loose barrel nut I would have serious concerns about damage to the barrel extension and/or bolt lugs and consider the rifle a safety hazard.

If the rounds are key holing I would suspect something else.

If you can, send it back for a new one. If you can't, neither brand of ammo you quote are particularly great. If you reload, get a few different type of projectiles and make up some different loads, using the same powder at around the lower third of the range. For 1:7 you can use lots of weight, try anything from 52gr to 68. If you don't reload, try a couple of boxes of decent match grade ammo, maybe 52 gr bthp and a 62 ish gr. If it still won't group at 50 or 100 then there's def a problem.

It's not grouping, for what I paid for this rifle I expect decent accuracy with run of the mill ammo and not having to run match grade through it. I have contacted the dealer I purchased from to find out if I send back to them or if I will have to send direct to Sig.

Is the optic mount properly tighted to the top rail ?

Is the "ring portion" on tight around the optic ?

I had similar issues when I first installed my PEPR mount, I undertorqued the mount to the rail and my groupings were awful. I cranked it up to the rail (with a tool and blue locktite) and got some sub-moa with reloads, 1"/1.5" with PMC 62gr and 1.5"/2" with AE/nork 55gr
