Some high end custom and target rifles come with test targets. Remington 40X is an example. Does anybody know how they test shoot these guns? Is the test target shot from a stocked rifle as it is sold or is it just a barreled action tested for accuracy? And what ammo is used?

 Kazimier

Remington 40X is made in the custom shop @ Remington. Rifles are test fired prior to shipment and load data is printed on the two test group targets shipped with each rifle.

Excellent questions Kazimier. By rights this useful info ought to be included with the test target.

I have come to feel that a test target is more of a "nifty sales gimmick" rather than conveying anything particularly useful to a potential buyer.

Yep, It is a snapshot to its potential, but does not tell the whole story for sure.

OMG!!!! what will all the barrel break-in gurus say at having 3 rounds thrown down the pipe without a proper break-in?!?!:nest:

When I got my 6mm Remington in 1967 it came with 3 five shot groups: .30, .40, and .32 for a .34 average. The load was a 60 grain Sierra HP and 36.0 grains of IMR3031.
