Testing Straight-Pulls

I have a Blaser R93 with multiple barrels and I love it. It fits like a glove, it’s very accurate and does everything I need it to do

these are the sleepers imo, the r8's put on too much weight and girth, hang onto that sucker, the r93 professional is one I'd like to have tried but my blaser itch was a touch stronger with the k95 at the time, should have gone 93, it weighed proper, slimmer, and fit great

This is very cool. I have been eyeing up the solos. I love the straight bolt handles on these guns.

If only they had long actions.

I have not shot one of these yet but met the company owner as well as the design engineer at the IWA show in Germany earlier this year. We took one of the rifles out of it's stock and fitted it to one of ours to check fit etc. The action seemed very smooth and quite natural to handle. If straight pull then this one. LA might follow??

I'm a Blaser fan through and through, and my R93's are more appealing to me than the newer, more gimmicky and fatter R8. But then I'm dumb enough to like hunting with what is essentially a blind magazine rifle, and don't feel any pain without a removeable box magazine.

The funny thing is that the main feature that attracted me to the R93 way back when was the straight pull action; when I handled one at a Toronto Sportsmen's Show I loved it and was an owner by the end of the same day. But now, 15-ish years later, the straight pull action is of far less importance to me than all the other wonderful features of the R93. It's amazing trigger and terrific accuracy now hold much more sway with my affections, and the incredible modularity that allows me to disassemble the rifle, slap on another barrel/bolt-head/scope/mount and know that the POI will be right in the same spot where it was the last time I had that configuration put together. Don't even get me started on the de-cocking safety, or the exceptionally compact overall length; I just plain love the functionality of this design.

I don't use it or want to use it for every hunt I do; I'm much more interested in traditional sidelock muzzleloaders and .45-70 levers or single shots, and this year I expect to be taking a deer with a Sig Cross or perhaps a Steyr SSG69. And I'm not particularly a fan of the overall look of the R93 either...but if I need a tool that is going to work perfectly and instill the confidence that is such an important part of shooting, the R93 is my go-to. It will certainly be one of the last guns I ever sell.
