Hey there I'm in Airdrie (10 mins north of Calgary), just got my restricted test passed and am waiting for the government to upgrade me.
Me and a buddy just bought the book for $15 from AHEIA and since they are booked solid for the next month, we just called Proline Shooters in Inglewood 265-6666 and they had us come in and challenge the test for $65 on a Saturday morning. To me this is the way to do it if you've shot pistols before and are familiar with them in general instead of waiting forever to get into a class. If you're not familiar with them I think there are two options: get into a class, or go to the SHooting Edge and shoot everything they have until you ARE familiar! lol! That's what I did.
If you ever want to go shooting I go out to Sibbald Flats (where it's free to shoot) range all the time and you're welcome to come along. I shoot a Tikka T3 Varmint SS in .223 and Lee Enfield 303s. Once the restricted comes through I'll be joining the Sarcee Fish and Game club who have a good range in the SE corner of Calgary where you can shoot pistols and all those short barrelled rifles.
