Thank to Tradeex... Superb Swedish Mauser Sporter...

Ok the rifle arrived in the PM. Wow, it handles very nicely! Balance is at the receiver, can hold it comfortably in one hand at the magazine well. It's light, quick to the shoulder, and the LOP and straight comb put you on target real fast. It's a Husqvarna 640 built on a Belgian FN 98 receiver and uses Swedish steel barrel. High quality! It is factory D&T'd, and came with weaver bases. It also has iron sights, the rear is 100m, with 2 flip up sights for 200 and 500m. It is also adjustable. The stock condition is not bad, there's a few knicks here and there, but pretty good. It's a schnabel style stock. The metal is about 85-90%, with handling marks. A bit of surface rust, small specks on the magazine well plate and tiny specks along the barrel. I think 0000 steel wool and gun oil will remove those right? I can also re-blue the barrel or touch it up. The bore.. is well.. basically new.. shiny, no pitting, strong rifling. Crown is good too!

The action.. Mauser 98.. strong, VERY SMOOTH. It makes me feel confident when I operate the action. It ejects shells positively and feeds positively as well. Safety positions work. Hm.. the plastic butt plate has some minor chips and scuffs, but I plan to put a slip on recoil pad anyways.

So overall, it's a very good rifle for the price in my opinion. Now I need to figure out how to prevent the tang from cracking under use. What do you guys recommend?

if you want to do your 6.5's a big favour, get a Bold trigger from Boyd's. Costs about $65 shipped to your door, and is great. I got the model with the safety on it. Very crisp and nice. BTW, I got a bubba'd 1924 96. I made a full-length stock for it (not the nicest looking, but does a very good job). I put a Williams rear and soldered a ramp front on. Put fiber-optic inserts on. I've only fired it once, but very, very nice. Seems quite accurate, no recoil, reasonable weight. I'll post pix one of these days, when I go back into the gun room.

I did know i had a void until i bought that 6.5X55... what that an other void 6.5X55 # 2 you are welcome... JP.

Now, there's some small specks of rust on the metal surface on the barrel and magazine floor plate. What's the best way to remove them? 0000 steel wool and gun oil? And how should I clean up the stock and maybe give it a good protective finish?

After refinishing the stock on my 6.5X55 Carl Gustav 1918 ( according to my SN ) Sporter rifle today was range time to try it, bought 3 boxes of Sellier&Belliot 140 gr... The first 10 shot had to get use to that long 2 stages trigger over 5 pounds for sure, the sights were right on at a 100 metres 2 inches high just perfect, the few first group were 3 inches + after 35 shots, the bore must haved got salted perfect (Did clean it with cooper cleaner a lot ), i did started to get 5 shots groups of 2 inches, at one point a the end of my rounds got a nice 1.6 group (best of the 60 rounds )... A least i got my shells fireform i will be reloading SST 129 gr next week for it, would be happy to get this rifle to shoot one inch group, it is such a nice rifle... Cheers. JP.

Caramel, I doubt you can get a CG '94/96 sporter from 1918, because at that time, they did not make sporting rifles (except civilian/militia target rifles). A lot of ex-military rifles were made into sported in Sweden, but they were not made by Carl Gustav. They were made by Vapen Depoten (Falun), Stiga and some other minor "refurbishers".
If your rifle is only stamped Carl Gustav (CG , no date) on the front receiver ring, then it's a '60s era civilian gun. It should have H.K. stamped on the left side of the receiver wall.

It does have HK and have those little crown all over the gun but i read that those little crowns stand for Carl Gustav, on a site my serial # ( 432### )was giving me that date, i dont know much about those rifle, thank for the info, i appreciate... Regards. JP.

Your rifle is a commercial CG rifle, what some people call "Employee's Rifle" in reference to the Crown's Jewell book.
Without seeing it, I can say it's either a "Trapper" or a "Trofé" model.
The S/Ns you were looking at are only for military issued rifles, not for the civilian work.

In fact, CG used spare leftover actions to build their sporter rifles.
The crown stamps you are mentioning are inspector's marks, CG using a (standing) upright crown and HVA using the same crown, but at an angle.

Thank Baribal those informations are important , those rifles are of great quality, do know Sako And Tikka as i own a few of them but those SM are great ( first one ), looking to order one in 9.3X57 or 8X57 two calibers i know nothing about, on Tradeex site right now... Cheers. JP.

This is my SM 6.5X55 after restauration, it is hard to beleive that for 225.00 you own such a nice rifle , i think i will be able to have shoot into one inch, 1.6 inch is the best i could achieve with Sellier& Belliot ammo, i will reload 129 gr SST next week, i will posted picture of the target, if i succed... JP.

Can you post a picture of the receiver ring markings? and close-up of the action, bolt handle side preferred. I'll be able to tell if it's a "real" CG sporter.

From the look of the rifle and the stock I doubt it's a CG sporter from the 60's.
Should have a single rune on the barrel, and CG with a date stamped on the left side of the receiver. The bolts are also blued on them.
