well, at 9:42 AM this morning the good lord pointed the way to a very thankful gift to this family of ours and Lady Luck was along with us as well, as the one shot was lethal! My oldest Jr took down a fine buck with his new Ruger American Compact in 7mm-08 with one my Leupold scopes on it. His rifle does not like our usual Hornady Performance ammo, so he was using the Hornady American White tail ammo. Pics to follow. He usually goes with great success a head shot, but on this one occasion he chose a vitals shot due to the circumstances at the time (bush twigs). Shown will be the buck and the shooter (most of him) and the rifle and my youngest Jr, our fastest man with a knife. He is standing on the same 20L pail that he uses to kiss his girl friend. The carcass has been cooled off with the garden hose and hung and skinned. The key to the winter hotel (attached garage) has been laid out for the weasels to move in for the winter (hide, feet & fat trimmings). We are just waiting a few hrs for the meat to cool down a little more and stiffen up some. Yep, the celebration has started, the Bar is open, wide open! Come-on over! The kitchen table is prept with the cutting boards and stainless steel buckets and the meat grinder is ready along with the vac-packer and the knives have a razor edge on them. The yote scrap pail has yet to be located. It's gonna be (pounded, sorry) back straps rolled in corn flake crumbs fried in a cast ironpan and served with A-1 sauce for supper tonight and I just know I'm gonna have very thin sliced quick fry for lunch tomorrow (cast iron pan, butter and salt and pepper). Very thick antlers for around these parts. He's my kind of buck, shows bruises from hard knox fighting! Has damage on his face around his left eye from fighting. He was a champ!
