I went for a 3 hour walk yesterday and could not find a bird to save my life. Today, while hauling a load of firewood out of the bush, a grouse walked out 5 feet in front of me. I watched it disappear into the brush on the other side of the trail. When I got home, I quickly unloaded the wood wagon and grabbed my Grampa's old Cooey model 78. I stopped on the trail to see if I could find the bird but no luck. I jumped back on the 4 wheeler and continued on the trail to get more wood. 30 yards past where I first saw the Grouse , he appear again! I hopped off the machine, loaded, and followed the bird into the bush. I could only get about 20 yards from it so I knelt down, and focused on a clear shot. The bird walked right onto my bead and now he is supper. There is no better feeling of satisfaction when hunting Grouse, than making a perfect head shot with a single shot 22.

I know what you mean. Over in the prairies we have Sunday hunting for the first time in my memory. It is going to be great having that extra day for us working stiffs.

Sunday hunting!

Just returned from Carrot river , Elk hunting at it's worst (due to heat and mosquioes ) we heard more shots fired today(sunday ) , the first day of regular season either ### elk than in an entire week of bull only ! It appears that a few people were making use of the extra day , Myself I had to double check with the hunting guide because it just felt foreign to me walking the game trails on Sunday !
