a few months ago I bought an Iver Johnson 16 gauge (used) from Reliable. The gun was very beat up, and there is some pitting inside the barrel. I was well aware of that issue. BUT in my research I have found out that from the 5 digit serial number, that the gun is approximately 100 yrs old, the serial places it roughly from 19xx(teens) or early 1920's
The previous Owner tried to restore the wood by using deck stain, and did a really horrible job, I sanded the wood down with 100 grit, and then with 200 and then with 300 grit, and added 2 coats of BLO. There is still a small crack on the for-grip, but it does not affect the gun, and it isn't increasing.
