Thank You Veterans

I want to thank all the older, and current vets. I have 5 family members including myself who are currently serving. We have all served in Afghanistan , and one cousin was severely wounded. Many member of the family that have fallen in wars gone by. My family has a strong military tradition, and has served Canada for generations, I guess I have a family traditions of being Canadian Patriots. So from my family, I thank you all.

And thank-you .284 for reminding us of the importance of the remembrance. My Dad was opposed to Remembrance Day becoming a holiday. He said that as a holiday it would become just another holiday and the message would be lost, whereas if 2 minutes of silence was observed in the workplace at 11:00 the importance of the day would not be lost. Like the song says, its just a pittance of time.

I went to the service in Vernon for the first time. I usually take my little ones with me, but being away for work, I was alone. It was a great service. They held it in a large hockey arena and the place was pretty full. The pipe band was great, as was the high school band who performed as well. A good number of the older veterans and a great speech from a reservist who can claim the most active duty of any reservist, 20 years and many conflict including the current situation in Afganistan.
Thanks to all of them

Remembrance day has always had a special meaning in my family. One of my grandfathers was an RAF tailgunner in WWII. The other was freed from Auschwitz. The story goes in my family that when the two met in Canada around 1960 my mother's father said "thank you for not forgetting us, we had no hope" to which my Dad's dad replied "It was no real bother" before they both embraced and started crying and laughing together. Canadian soldiers have done more than just preserved our nation and made it safe for us to live easy here. They have literally changed the lives of millions of foreigners who never get the opportunity to thank them for it.

Here's to our vets!

i am a naturalized Canadian, like so many others i decided to lay it all down and serve my new home. i still consider joining up one of the best things i could of done. thank you gents for the kind words.

What is the saying?

Never has so much been owed, by so many, to so few?

Whatever the saying my family sleeps in a warm comfortable home without fear because of what was and what is being done.

Thanks Troupes!
Thanks Vets!
And for those that have fallen....As for myself and my family, we are truly grateful.

Thanks for putting it on the line, being away from your families, doing your job and making us proud. To the fallen, and your families, we will not forget you. You have given everything.

Yes thanks to all Vets north and south and east and west of our borders!

i am a member of the royal canadian regiment (infantry) and have served 2 tours to afghanistan so far in my career. since joining in '03 i am amazed at how much more support there is for us and i appreciate it soooo much and i know all my troops feel the same way. although there is a lot of support for the soldiers i see very little support for the mission which makes me extremly frustrated. i can tell you first hand that what canadians are doing there is making a huge difference. the locals love us and the taliban fear us. this is another war where canadians are proving themselves as some of the best fighters in the world. what makes me sad is that in 2011 due to all the peacenik "squeaky wheels" the government plans to basically shut down our mission. if this happens we have failed every soldier that has died there so far. plz everyone spread the word that we should continue the mission.

I agree with you all! I am proud of all Canadians who choose to serve. It was a privilege to serve myself. I've been putting off getting those veterans plates for my car long enough! :canadaFlag:

Go get them my friend, you deserve it! My 17 year old sons keeps telling me that at 40 I am too young for the plates, youth!!!

I think that I was on an express train to prison until I joined up at 17, I owe who I am to our veterans. I love thanking them for the awesome example that they set. It has been and continues to be my honor to serve this magnificent country :canadaFlag:

Sadly though, every year my sister tells me how the people in her small town in SK act like a bunch of spoiled kids being forced to attend church for their small service.

Welocme to CGN nitetac.

My gandfather was in WW1 and WW2 in the naval service. Royal Navy and the Merchant Service taking supplies to Europe and Russia. Got the DSC and OBE in WW1. Got sunk a couple of times by submarines.
Lost his Issue 45 Colt Auto and 455 Webley to the New York City Police and The Treasury Service in WW2. The Treasury Service saw him leaving his ship to take comand of another one and checked him. Found him in possession of firearms without a new city licence! Needless to say, He was not impressed with our American Allies!

I'm 61 years old and have attended Remembrance Day services as long as I can remember. The "face" of our veterans is changing. Veterans were always the "old guys" and I admired them not only for what they had done in the past but still parading despite the passage of 60 years.
Last year on Nov 11 our son was in Kandahar with a detachment from his Regiment. He just sent me a picture of him on parade this Nov 11th at CFB Kingston. Many of his fellow soldiers were wearing the General Campaign Star.
Sadly our Country also has a "new crop" of Silver Cross mothers.
Lest We Forget!
