thanks all

I'm just looking at helping a buddy reload,i've reloading for a long time, but I wasn't sure about reloaded 50 BMG
so here it is,if your max case length is 3.91,and you get a bunch of casings, when would you start trimming
say one peice is 3.93 etc. like your opinion must be a guide rule, start trimming when ??
Thanks

Well your question is not about 50 bmg, its about case trimming.
Trim when over spec....? What are you expecting to be told exactly?
Read your reloading book, there is max case length and trim to length.

Some people should not reload.

You say that you have been reloading for " a long time", but now you are helping a buddy, and you do not know when to trim cases.
Go back to your reloading book, or share it with him.

If I was at or over max case length with any case in the lot., I would be trimming the whole lot to 3.90" and then fly at the reloading.

Don't forget to size first, then trim, since the expander button being pulled through the neck may lengthen the brass slightly as well.

Regards, Dave.

When I got mine I bought once fired military brass, I trimmed it all then check length everytime. I find it doesn't stretch to bad, trim every 3-4 firings.

Kryogen, I would suggest you get some, might change your attitude
if people like you have nothing to add,you know what you can do,feedback score 3, 4 years on the board and you know it all.

He was blunt, but he is not wrong.
You say you have been reloading for a while, but you are unsure of the importance of MAX case length.
Please, for your own safety, read and learn some more.

Cheers,

I buy new from the store, and I don't sell many items, so it's quite obvious that I am not going to have a lot of transactions in my trader rating. I don't get your point.

Please take time to read your reloading manual in the case length/trimming section.
Have a good day.

and for your information,i've never reloaded anything as large as 50 BMG ,so always good to get opinions,i remember CGN when anyone could just ask questions, without bleeding hearts

Why would 50 bmg be different? Theres a max case length and a trim to length. Follow the book. Don't tell me that you don't have a reloading book.

I will gladly help newcomers, but when someone has been here for 11 years and has been "reloading for a long time" and asks if he should trim a case and to what length, while he is helping a buddy reload 50 BMG, something is very wrong.

Accident waiting to happen.

While it is true that trimming cases to length generally follows a specific pattern, the 50 is a very large case, and could
cause some doubts as to procedure.

My take is just give out the info, and help allay the guy's doubts.

No point in castigating him, or accusing him of being a dangerous reloader.
The fact that he asks would seem to run counter to that suggestion.

Not trying to create dissention here, we are simply shooters helping shooters.

Regards, Dave.

On balance, I'm with Kryogen here:

- the OP's original post wasn't exactly the easiest piece of text to translate into meaningful English;

- when the OP got a strongly worded, but correct response to his question, the OP took immediate offence and replied with rather
personal comments about the responder's (Kryogen's) social life (and provided a new and novel interpretation
of what "Feedback Score" is about at the same time); and

- when Kryogen's response was validated by a moderator, the OP deleted the content of his original posts,
likely to avoid looking foolish.

Not that any/all of this hasn't been done multiple times by multiple folks since day 1 of CGN... - may have done one or more, myself... lol.

Anyway, DING - the fight's over...

50 BMG

Max case length : 3.910
Case trim length: 3.900

Trim when you reach 3.910 or more, and trim to 3.900.
Yes, you could also trim all your brass to 3.900 even if they are between 3.900 and 3.910.
If they are shorter than 3.900, you do not need to trim.

Can we lock this thread now?
