I'd asked a question on the Ross #### posting and someone steered me away from that because it's not what that is about? Pictures only maybe...
But Smellie took the time to PM me with advice which was immediately useful, as a previous owner of one of my MkIII's had dis-assembled the bolt(unpinned) and re-installed it in an unsafe position.
Smellies advice and help was awesome; a CGN'r to emulate for sure.
Thanks very much

Good thing he caught it. Thats the second rifle in circulation that had its bolt assembled wrongly - the first was in a local shop on the for sale rack. Someone had actually managed to get the bolt in the receiver!

Smellie is always very helpful ... :)

You might want to read and save this for future reference... :)

There's an outstanding article by "PerversPépère", on Ross M-10 Rifle Bolt Disassembly (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=298-Ross-M-10-Rifle-Bolt-Disassembly and the dangers of doing it incorrectly. It may be found under the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/content.php...esearch-for-milsurp-collectors-and-re-loaders forum of the Milsurp Knowledge Libraries.

My son picked one up in Cowtown ( yes he's got a PAL ) off of a fellow who'd never fired it.
My son went online and watched a video or two on Ross bolt dis-assembly and assembly; these were still a bit...confusing.
I talked to him on the phone and explained Smellies "Rule of thumb" ( and no that's not the Olden English Lawe about being able to beat your wife but the stick must not be bigger than your thumb ).
Got off the phone and he called back 15 min's later and had it figured out.
Awesome! With good advice a dangerous situation turned out well.

It is so easy to put the Ross Mk III bolt together wrong...or even to have it go wrong when assembled. All you have to do is pull the bolt out of the rifle, pull the bolt forward from the sleeve and give it a slight twist. I had one like this and luckily with the right warnings knew enough to check it and correct it.

Most people do not know that much about Rosses...it is a dangerous issue.

The pinned bolt makes it impossible to do this. But only a percentage of them are pinned.

Could someone forward me one of these uber helpful PM"s? I'm aware you can put it together wrong (hence I never take it apart) but whats this about giving a twist with the bolt out?

He is a very special guy, I love him, I spied a tear in his eye as he read this thread. Thanks guys you made his day.
janice.

Yes, Janice, you and SMELLIE have a Weird and Wonderful relationship. He's Weird, and you are Wonderful. :)

He does brew a fair Coffee, though, and, living about 20 miles from him, I always know I can get a free coffee anytime.

Well, now that I have razzed him enough, I will say that I enjoy his friendship and appreciate the vast amount of knowledge stored between his two ears. Unlike a few people, SMELLIE is quite willing to help and share information with almost anyone who asks.

I, too, value him as a friend. (And so do my Labradors.)
.

I'll join in. In my short time on CGN, smellie has added to many threads with an amazing amount of information. I'm truly in awe of his knowledge and experience.
