Thanks Jerry @ Mystic Precision

I am offering PTG fluted bolts in both spiral and straight. Yes, they are shallow but look great.

Since this comes all done at a great price, it didn't make sense to work on customers bolt bodies with a higher overall cost.

Just remember that factory bolt vary in material thickness so going too deep can break through exposing the interior which is not good for all weather function.

Spiral fluting is more cosmetic then functional.

Jerry
Those savage bolt work great, as I have said before, there is no need for deep fluting on bolt, either savage or rem, there is no need to have deep fluting, what look cool usually are not the best. Even the top end rifle like
Accuracy international AW doesn't even have deep fluting, only about .015 to .02" deep.

Oh I wasn't doubting that they look good. Neither doubting the quality of work you do for them. I just wanted deeper. Yeah they look great. But just were not deep enough. I understand depth can affect structural properties etc of the bolt. I just like the deeper look. I think both of you guys do great work so I'm not flaming anyone At all lol. Nor am I saying Jerry can't flute bolts that deep. I said I don't remember why that's all. :)

You don't know that for sure, deeper does effect the wall thickness of the bolt , there for effect the integrity of the bolt, is act as a structure, stiffens when chamber the round, I wouldn't mess too much with it. Trust me, look good is not alway good!

What does bolt fluting do?

It looks like a great way to help your bolt collect dirt. Am I missing something or does it have a practical application?

And those that have bolt fluting, honestly, does it collect more dirt with or without?

The functional idea behind bolt fluting is that the grooves allow dirt to collect there and not hang up in the raceways/bridge of the action. Help keep the actionc cycling when in the muck.

NO idea as I am unlikely to be shooting in that ugly of conditions.

If that was needed, I would want more grooves and larger. Right now, there is still so much "flat" area that if these caked up with dirt, cycling could be affected.

Actually, this is more cosmetic then anything.

Jerry

It help specially when bolt are dirty, your cycle the bolt will help push dirk and dust to the grove , also in very cold weather when frost set in, by cycle your bolt, it push into the channal instead of staying on the surface will cause jamming and result bolt stuck!

Here a the fluted bolt sleeves make for the Savage action by a Sharpshooter that I bought a couple of years back before they got their hand slapped by.... the cost are very reasonable.

I did. He offered me a bolt that came pre fluted but the flutes are far to thin and not deep enough. Did you get Jerry to do those flutes on those bolts? Are they savage? Jerry I think mentioned he doesn't flute the factory barrels anymore but I can't remember what reason. I was good for bedding too with Jerry but cash was low. I just mainly want to fluting. Did you do that work yourself?

Well they do look good.

Top notch

I'd like to thank Jerry as well. He responded quick to my questions and helped me with my order. Although it was only a base I ordered yesterday, I would not hesitate to order more from him in the future.

And that's how it starts......(insert evil laugh) :D
