870 stocks will fit on mine. I have, however, tried to fit 870 stocks to other S&W 3000 receivers and they didn't fit properly.

The reason was the attachment for the stock on the receiver end. The butt end of my receiver is completely flat and the stock just screws into the receiver (the screw stops just short of the bolt). The ones we have at work don't fit properly because those 3000's have a "post" that slides into the stock and the screw goes in there. This makes for a 1/8" gap between the stock and receiver. It can always be trimmed to fit.

I'll try to get some pics to better explain this.

It could take a while, bringing a camera into the office is hard to do. Getting caught with one would mean a few days off.....I guess I could use those days to go to the range....

Nah...I think I'll just ask.
 
This pic isn't much better in explaining it but..if it had the "nut" for the butt screw to go into, you would be able to see it sticking out past the side of the receiver at the back.

Any sling plate I've ever looked at has a large enough hole in the center that it will go over the nut with no problem.
Like Luger9 said..it wouldn't be hard to trim the lenght down.

I'm pretty sure my marine magnum has that nut. I'll take the stock off tomorrow and double check. If it does I'll post a pic.
