Just wanted to thank everyone for their opinions and info regarding Sks's since I had never owned one. Special thanks to Curtton who sold me a nice SKS after hearing all the problems I previously had with two crappy SKS's I had purchased, and to C9er who fixed me up with a cpl. hundred rounds of ammo, and to Proutfou for the free stripper clips to put the ammo on.

you are welcome mr. E ... she is a good shooter, no FTF after 200 rounds, she loves cheap czech ammo. being corrosive i cleaned her right away when i got home.

you're the first person i sold a rifle to and found dealing with CFC pretty easy (on non-rest). the only thing i was surprised with is the high shipping cost, MAN!!! its expensive from BC to quebec , by xpresspost it was $48 , the cost would have sky rocketted if i sent it by priority courier, wouldnt be worth shipping a sks.

I sent Proutfou a small package a while back from BC to Montreal and shipping cost more then the item was worth.

Must be some strange postal system out there. :D

its a small price to pay to ensure a fellow CGN (you) get a safer sks.

i hope we dont hear less from you cos you got a good shooter now. lol.

IIRC, you are gonna go hunting with the SKS, definitely post a pic of you hunting.:shotgun:

Yep, I will post one hopefully with a buck...but not till next Nov. and if I can find some of that cheap ammo around here I will playing with it at the range or out at the farm where I hunt. Maybe I can find someone around here to split a case with me.

Don't forget you will need to use soft point ammo for hunting, and not the FMJ stuff.
I called Distri-corp here in Montreal today, and I am picking up two boxes of Igman, 124g. soft points for hunting tomorrow. They were $10.64 per 20rnd. box. Not sure if anyone here ever used that for hunting, but I hope its ok. And since everyones been talking about the surplus stuff running dry, I also ordered up their last 300 Rnds. of FMJ non-corrosive, since I cannot find any of the cheap corrosive stuff around here. That was $54 for the 300 rnds. which I guess is pretty good since I am picking it up there and not paying some crazy shipping fee's like I would have if I got some elsewhere.

300 rds for $54 is a good price, especially non-corrosive, where is it from?

Good price in you area indeed, as prices in our area are up to $30 for 100, and dealers are opening boxes, and limiting sales...some are not even selling full crates anymore. :(

I called Distri-corp for the soft points, which I knew they had because its listed on their website, and when I mentioned to him that the cheap surplus stuff was hard to find, he mentioned to me he had those 300 rnds left he could sell me. He also mentioned that he figured he would never get the chance to get the cheap corrosive stuff again. They usually ship everything, but you can go to the warehouse by appointment only and pick the stuff up, and save a few $$$.
Is there any way of knowing if ammo is corrosive or not just by looking at it ??? I have a cpl. hundred rounds I got from C9er( CGN member) a while back and I cannot remember if he said they were corrosive or not. I believe they were South African, and I do not notice him posting here anymore so I cannot ask him.

Interesting lesson on shipping. I sent a pistol to a guy...Priority @ $46.00 insured and signature....because I had been informed that being a firearm it had to go PP. The guy sent me a No.4 Mk.1* and paid $26.00. How, you say! He sent it by cheapest parcel post and added signature and insurance and got a tracking number. No more PP for any firearms for me.

HeavyBullet, do you have a car? Ever in Sherbrooke?;)

if you dont hear from C9er and its not mention on the box then i would treat all ammo NOT made in north america as corrosive.

when it comes to unknown ammo, when in doubt , wash it out ....curtton

no idea but I might have a lead for you if you want a crate of 1000 Czech...in Sherbrooke, no shipping possible.

I could buy it for you if there is some left and hold onto it until you can pick it up?

it depends on the value of your pistol but to pay approx $70 for a $150 SKS by priority courier , it just didnt make sense , if the rifle was worth $1500 , then i would .

thats why i went with xpresspost for $48.

on the other hand , i chose not to go with cheaper reg parcel cos it took too long to get to quebec, up to 10 days while xpresspost is 3 days and priority is 2 days. the less time in canadapost the less chance of it getting lost, besides i dont think canadapost will honour an insurance claim if it was lost while shipping with reg parcel.:puke:
