A few months ago, I put up one of my rifles (that wasn't even that pricey) for raffle.

I did it to raise some money for a family that had a teenage son that was in the CHildrens Hospitol, as he was suffering from a type of cancer.

The father was a contractor, who basically lost all of his work since he realy could only be with his son, and cared aqbout nothign else other than the well being of his son.

The community also held a fundraiser for the family to help pay expenses as well as day to day bills, that don't stop coming just because youhave a sick kid.

We raised $1000 just in the rifle raffle. Our fundraiser raised another 6K or so.

The rifle raffle was done completely online, with ticket sales only to hunting forums that I go to. I never even hit up the local community.

I am bloody happy to be the bearer of good news now.

The son has had a good recovery, he is still staying in a trailer outside the Childrens Hospital, to get daily treatment, but he is out of the hospital itself, and is expected to be back home next week.

This kid and his father is not only a member of our community, but they are pretty personal friends of mine I didn't stress that too much in the raffle, but there it is...

ASs a testimony to how great us hunters are, many people sent in $$ and said " I don't want the rifle, if I win it, lets raffle it again"

WILSON- (The LAST guy in the world that wants an SKS) won the gun, and he still doesn't want it...SO we may raffle it off again, anyway.

Thanks to all who bought a ticket, or sent donations...It was appreciated

You should get the biggest thanks of them all Clark. :)

+1

Hell of a good deed to do. Let me know if I have to send mor ecash for BCBoy's SKS raffle.

Shouldn't this be in Off Topic?

Oh, wait a sec...

Good News. I hope that the boy makes a full and speedy recovery.

The father was a contractor, who basically lost all of his work since he realy could only be with his son, and cared aqbout nothign else other than the well being of his son.

I lost my son, Cameron, last May at 2 days old. He had a congenital birth defect - Diapharmatic Hernia (affects the growth of his lungs)...

As a father of two, I can tell you there is nothing worse in the world than to watch your child suffer and there is not a damn thing you can do. You would give up your life in a heartbeat or sell your soul to the devil just to give your child a chance. If someone wants to break a man, you don't kill him - you take away his child. There is no worse feeling in the world, I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Anything somebody can do for the family to take the other worries of life off their shoulders so they can concentrate on what is really the most imortant to them means the world to them.

God bless you Gatehouse for being a considerate human being and taking the time to make a difference in somebody else's life. If there were more people in the world that showed such generocity and concern, the world would be that much nicer of a place to live.

Please keep us informed on the boy's progress.

Boris

For some unknown reason, I missed the whole raffle thing...and I regret that, though I do not want the gun either. This thread however, confirms once again the fact that CGN'ers are good people. Well done Gatehouse, and of course, my best wishes to the lad and his family.
