What do you want in features? Mil/mil, FFP, illumination, ect. There's a lot of info out there on scopes.
Features details being unknown, in that price range I'd suggest a Bushnell Tactical 5-15x40mm.
 
Not gonna lie but for $500 you're not going to really get much in terms of long range optics. That's mid range hunting scope budget.
 
Depends on your definition of long range and what features you want on the scope. To get a "starting" scope for long range you probably have to be in the $1000 to $1300 range. Top end scopes start at the $3000 range and go up from there.
 
I had a hawke 6-24 sidewinder for $500 that worked fine pretty good glass and repeatable turrets . It was on a 7mm rem mag for over 2 years and had lots of use with no issues . Only downside was it was big and heavy bu $500
