You might have to hog the crack out completely and either make up a spacer block or fill it with fibreglass resin. I would also make up a cross slot and add an internal cross bar to hold it all together, all the way from each inside wall. Then, I would take a serious look at refinishing the ways.
Sometimes, the little things turn into big things. If the stock doesn't have matching numbers to the receiver, I would consider replacing it completely, before doing a major refit.
The refit isn't a real big deal but it is fastidiuos and takes a lot of time to do it right.
