Its pretty bizarre alright. I guess it just boils down to scarcity, that they are part of Canadian history and what the market will pay. I sure wouldn't pay those prices though. The (maybe) DCRA is 100% overprices anyway you look at it. There have been genuine DCRA rifles in better condition than that going for $850-900 at the Kamloops gun show in the past two years.

Supply and demand. I know what you mean about the pricing. I speculate that there's a whole new generation of Canadian shooters who are re-discovering our military history. Old guys like me remember dirt cheap pricing and Lee Enfields were everywhere. I bought one of the 1950 run of Long Branch #4's when they hit the market. In Toronto, they were selling in the $250.00 range new in the cosmoline. Try to find one now. Some unscrupulous folks are selling restored sporters and "put-together" rifles as factory original, so buyer beware. The good guys will tell you it's a restoration piece but not everyone in the firearms community is so honest. Personally, I love the idea that so many of us appreciate and are trying to preserve those remnants of our military history.

I know of 3 DCRA's that sold for $1200.00-$1500.00,but they were near pristine/new condition.

With less than 2000 floating around, the price is only going up.

it seems the one above has the front wood cut back?

.303 DCRA's are more affordable. DCRA 7.62 NATO conversions seem to sell for more money and are readily identifiable as DCRA by their markings.

Like any good kit, all LB prices are going up except maybe the beaters out of India.

Like I said some time ago when they were available - go buy one of the unissued Brit No.4's P&S had earlier last year. $450-495 for unissued No.4Mk1's was an unheard of deal in today's market. Now all gone. (I got mine, a near-perfect 1942 BSA)

Jean still has a couple turkish-issue No.4's that look to be non-refurbs and aren't beat rifles from India - a steal at $350 each. Only 2 left - don't say I didn't warn ya!

if you look closely at the receiver and bolt on the rifle it appears that there is a contract number its a fuzzy pic but it looks like it to me ...yes the forestock and top wood have been shortend i supect the barrel has as well ...prolly a 5-700.00 rifle if it has

Wow, earlier today I logged on, right at the top was the $800 LB, I was the first to view . Wondered if it would sell at that, but now the ad has 407 views, marked as sold, and Pls Remove. I guess it did. At least 2 people think it is worth that (seller and buyer).

yes
it is very expensive, but if it is new, why not if people want a
I know cgn is also a site for investor
but still, I like milsurp
I find that there are crazy price
I have 2 DCRA in perfect condition and true
I did not pay 800 for them
it is good for me if I want to sell, but I do not sell
I play military shooter
and these are a dream rifle

My neighbour has an extremely nice long branch no4. It was his grandfather's. Complete original furniture etc etc. Am I jealous? yep. I've told him to A: never sell it and B: never sell it for less than 800... heheh

There only worth $700 to $1000 tops if it came with its case etc. then i would look at $1200 to $1500 very closely.....there is talk on the forum here that there is some doctored ones going around one guy even new a guy that did it a few years back be very careful with these ones....

I'm somewhat new to the game, I've lucked out a couple times getting really nice rifles for a REASONABLE price. Not cheap, but reasonable. Its unfortunate for the new guys out there that have some sort of gusto to start enjoying lee enfields and having to deal with "crap" being sold for ungodly amounts. Nevermind parts or accessories! Saw a guy wanting a hundred bucks for an enfield carrying case when you can buy them on amazon of all places for 30. Kind of ticks me off. I know guys want to make a buck, but seriously, if I knew I was selling to a guy sort of like me, where all I wanted was to experience shooting the same rifle my grandfather did in the war, I wouldn't hesitate to sell him/her it for close or the same price as I paid. I didn't buy milsurps to make money, I bought them to make memories. Sorry, had to get that off my chest. And a little thank you to the fellows that I have bought from. I'm enjoying the rifles I have and I hope my boy, when he's older, will too.

Do you mean you can buy an original canvas carrying case for $30? Or an Indian- made last week's repro marked with JT&L 1940, listed for $35.99 ?? With the sideways pouch on the side (originals look upside down instead of sideways, and are worth more than the repros by far.)) Lucky for you to find what you wanted at a reasonable price; even better that you plan to enjoy it and save it for your kid. But the fact is, they are gaining in value and if the demand is there, the values and prices will follow.
Basic law of supply and demand, but there are still enough good ones around to get some deals. For now, anyway.

What I wonder is what's going to happen to prices when the old timers start to pass? A good portion of collectors are getting up there in age and many have serious collections bought when prices were low and supply was good. A lot of these guns may hit the market in the future maybe making prices drop? Just thinking out loud, any thoughts?

Their relatives are gonna be rich (if they can resist the urge to drop them off at the local police to be "Destroyed" :( ) Now would be the time to learn from these older collectors, maybe you can get to know the family so they give you first dibs!! But I don't think they will hit the market en masse enough to affect prices which seem to be climbing quite steadily.

I don't care about prices too much, its the knowledge and wisdom those guys have that could be lost which concerns me. They are also generous with their time too. Seems almost.everyone wants a buck for everything these days. That ticks me off too. Kind of cool though that gunnutz is "free" and has a huge bank of knowledgeable people willing to help FOR FREE. Cutos.
