Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty armed with AK-47s held off hundreds of jihadists during the Benghazi attack. They had to be taken out by mortars.

This is the best I can do. Doesn't explain how or if they were able to bring combat gear with them to Syria. This volunteer says the Kurds gave them old military equipment. You have to buy the good stuff on the black market.



Kind of like a modern crusade.

From what I recall Europeans were volunteering through facebook and just travelled there like a tourist. They are not paid if you fight for the YPG. Merc and military contractor are different. Some governments were unhappy about people going over there. We had some Canadians do it too. One ex military guy and some overweight gated community girl are the only ones I have seen. The girl did not stay long and was told by other people to go home and that she does not belong there.

A know a few upper middle class men that left it all behind for the FFL.


I thought I'd say my vz58 has done what happened in that video twice and only when the same friend shot it. I've had thousands of rounds thru it myself with no problems.

This is a weird thread.

So OP you own an AK? Do you use an AK for work? Or what is going on that you are using an AK to depend on your life?

I owned an AK once upon a time. Fun rifle to shoot, but they are poorly made, poorly shooting POS. For quality, precision, durability, dependability, ergonomics, modularity, etc. I would take the KAC SR15 I own over an AK any day.

Because a AK has a cleaning rod with it is hardly a reason to choose it over other rifles.
 
I'd trust every single one of my rifles wayyyyyy before some ak dingy rifle given to me by that outfit.

I'd say NIET my own rifle fine!

There is a known trigger gremlin issue with the semi version of the VZ58. Don't think it's an issue with all the proper parts.
That said, training is the ultimate divider between weapon systems. There is more to the rifle the enemy is armed with then anything else. Jihadi against Jihadi is an even fight, Jihadi against trained western forces is 1000 to 1 fatality rate.

You can read Desert Sniper by Ed Nash: a Brit who volunteered to fight. It covers basically everything you're wondering about. A very interesting first hand account by someone with a bit of writing ability. Well worth the $11 it sells for on Amazon.

and all those guys who complain about Ak reliability, maybe you refer to the counterfeit products made in Pakistan, Ethiopia etc? Concern Kalashnikov has just released top 5 counterfeit AKs
 
I remember seeing a documentary about foreign volounteers in the Serbia/Bosnian war. I think it was vice tv. It was interesting... the commander of their unit was Latino, the guy they focused on was a chubby middle aged Brit, lifetime soldier. He did some ‘bad thigs’ As he put it and was on the run. There was a couple South African guys who fought their way around Africa before ending up there... thinking back now, these were probably paid guys.
 
AK cleaning rods are shorter than the barrel. Tell me how that suppose to work? MR AK Guru? You need to waste time, putting on the patch jag to get the length you need.

16.3" barrel. Most cleaning rods are around 15 5/8"

Then if you got a AK 74, with the brake.. Even more useless..

I've been carrying, using and shooting AR (C7/C8) for 17 years and never experienced problems seen in this "unbiased" videos. Most rifles will malfunction with a less than good user and lack of care.

I love AR, I wish we could own AK, although we can own VZ58 which personnaly I think are superior to AK. But given the choice, I'd pick an AR any time, unless it was made by NEA :p
 
You and the guy next to you put their cleaning rods together to make one long enough. This was by design. Many other rifles do the same thing.
