The 110gr Barnes TTSX out of a 270 Winchester

Barnes says the 110gr .277" TTSX needs 2000 fps for expansion. Started at 3400 fps MV, this will happen out to 550 yards. The 129gr LRX (3150 fps MV) will open up down to 1700 fps, which would be 750 yards (2065 fps @ 550y)

I have found that Barnes bullets are the easiest to get to shoot on initial load development. No guessing on where they need to be seated. 50 thou off the lands, run up the powder charge until they either pressure up or become sub moa.

Interesting when you look at it. I had been contemplating going light for caliber in order to ensure adequate expansion and flatten out the 0-400yrd trajectory. Since I don’t use turrets etc on my main hunting rifle. Also thinking the lighter for caliber bullets would give closer to cup and core performance on light structure hits ie between two ribs rear portion of the lungs. But if the LRX readily expands down to 1700fps it might stand to reason it will open up more easily on light structure hits as well.

Probably just an over thinking of a simple thing on my part.

there's nothing wrong with using a TTSX, but in most instances the newer LRX offerings are a better choice for a wider window of performance
