So as time goes on I am starting to realize just how great the 1911 platform really is. I have a number of other handguns of modern design and they definitely have advantages over the 1911. The new ones are typically easier to strip and clean and less fussy with ammo than the 1911. BUT the 1911 is just so right to shoot. Now my Sig and CZ are accurate, reliable and easy to shoot but for me the 1911, even my lower end Ruger SR1911 just feels and shoots right. Can't explain it any other way. My CZ is the TS model and it is very accurate but the 1911 is pretty close. Great balance of size, accuracy, pointability, reliability. Now if I could just scrounge up enough money for a Wilson.....

The venerable 1911 has withstood the test of time.

'Nuff said.

Hard to beat a 1911 trigger and they can be very reliable with routine maintenance...

I love my Czech and dig....but I am always drawn to the 1911, don't know why really, just an awesome design and simple function....long may it be copied...

I love the 1911 and don't find it all that bad to field strip once you get on to it.. it has it's own character and that what I like about each gun I shoot.

I didn't say it was bad to strip just that it takes a bit more time to strip and clean. I rather enjoy the process myself. Just saying I can strip and clean my Sig in less than half the time of my 1911. Put 230gr ball ammo in it and it will shoot all day. Recoil is manageable but enough to feel satisfying. The 1911 for ever.

Yeah but field strip and detail strip are different yet again. I can take a 1911 down to every single pin and spring in about 3 mins with just a hammer and a punch, and have it back together in less then 5.

I have always had a special place reserved for the 1911 .45 ACP, right beside me.

Funny enough I also have a very special place reserved next to me for a .36 caliber 1851 Navy!

Better yet, a cased matched pair of .36 cal. 1851 Navy's with matching or consecutive numbers. ;)
