The 243 & the 75 VMAX

Your load is 2gr over max charge for a 75gr bullet and Varget from the Hodgdon site!
Just making sure you know.

The data is inconsistent for this combo. I've seen as high as 41 grains for max charge. I started at 38 grains and worked up and the sweet spot ended up at 40.5 grains. No signs of excess pressure. I'm watching my brass closely. I'm using the Lyman 49th manual. They list the highest charge for a 75 grain flat base. I figure the same weight in a boat tail will have less bearing surface which means less pressure. Works great in my gun.

I started looking at other sources and I have found the same Mike.
I always use at least 3 sources of info for my loading. I try to use the bullet manufacturer, the powder supplier and an independent source.
If the load is working for you and no signs of stress on your brass, have at it.
I am going to look back at my 75 grain and Varget info and I might be able to improve on my results.

I like your method and I agree. Multiple sources for data is very wise. The more the merrier. I also have hogdons 2009 annual reloading manual and pictures from a buddies Hornady manual and I research the internet. Maybe I over do it but I want to be sure. In some chat forums I've seen guys using 42 grains of Varget but I've never seen that in published data so I don't feel comfortable with it.
