I find the 270 to be okay if you are a one rifle guy. But I prefer to use the 25 and 26 cals for deer and stuff and a bigger gun for the big stuff..just keep it interesting.

The 270 is ok,,, same for the 30/06.

Both have there place in the firearms world.

10% here is not 10% there in the trade up & down with each firearm.

Funny thing about 270 is,,, there is none of them in competition match shooting that I've seen. If there is,,, I'm guessing it's alot less than 1% less the zero.

The 270 will never brake all the records the 30/06 has under its belt in world match compititions nor the amount of critters harvested all around the world.

The 270 is ok same as the 30/06.

This is just a IMO only as each persons believes in what they choose too.

Quick reminder- this is an Internet gun forum in 2017. 270 vs 30/06 is a gun forum topic of 20 years ago....;)

The fact that this debate is happening about 2 cartridges that are 100 years old and still very viable rounds tells you just how good each of these really are and just how far we've actually come in cartridge development in the last 100 years.

did I mention i can shoot and hunt with my 270 in SW Ontario....
cant do that with 30-06....they look the same at 5 ft away.

If I only had 1 gun for all big game and laws were not an issue, you bet it would be a 30-06. but I`m in Ontario so I suck it up and use the second best by a bit.

That fact that we are having this debate actually tells us how many are stuck in a time that is 100 years ago. ;)

Some people still think carburetors are they way to go and that the internet is just a fad. :)

Some have their favorite. Correspondingly, people often have least favorite.

Have owned a lot of hunting rifles, until about 5 years ago, had never owned a 30-06. About a year ago I got my first 270. My favorite caliber is 300 wm...er ah.....338 wm.....er ah....

There are probably 30, kill anything in NA calibers. People pick lighter ones when they hunt in civilized country.....the 270 is a lighter one. If you hunt where you are part of the food chain.....larger choices.

Find a rifle and Caliber you like, go hunting.

For the record my least favorite is a tie. Between 308 and 303.

had no idea there's such restriction in Ontario.

in Quebec we can hunt with 50 BMG ;)

Quebec rules say : "Rifles of a calibre equal to or greater than 6 mm (.243) used with centre-fire cartridges"

Used as it is intended, it is a great round. Some try to make it do things it wasnt meant for, then complain it doesnt do what they want it to. Keep the game you shoot it with reasonably sized ( black bear, non-yukon moose, elk, sheep, caribou and wolves) and no one complains. It is great when used as a non-30 cal magnum.
