I know, but it's all such old, and hair splitting dialogue about irrelevant theoretical advantages. BEST?? 10%?? When stuff is being pulled out of one's rear end, how can so much be made of it?

No, I meant to say exactly what I said.

"The answer is this: anywhere you can use a centerfire rifle for big game, you may use any calibre. .223 to 700 NE, doesn't matter. Perfectly legal."

I figured it didn't need to be spelled out that the centerfire in this case was in reference to rifles, as this is a thread about them, and the only use of the term centerfire in the FWCA is solely in reference to rifles, not at all to shotguns. I was mistaken, clearly it did need to be stated that you can't use any calibre centerfire rifle where you can't use centerfire rifles. I had made the assumption that it would be understood I was using the term in the same meaning as is in the FWCA, which is really all that's relevant if we're discussing what you can use hunting, since it's the governing law.

And no, shotguns are not all centerfire.
 
Sounds like a fishing thread to me....lots of "baiting" going on. Check the hunting regs for Southern Ontario. There are calibre restrictions for hunting with centrefire rifle.

No, shotguns are not all centerfire. And neither are all rifles. Centerfire refers to the primer being in the centre of the cartridge case head. Using terminology correctly makes all the difference.

If I was caliber restricted for big game, and I had a choice, I would go with a .260 or 6.5CM in Southern Ont or Quebec(they are .243 and +)nowadays if I was there. I just find that caliber interesting and am pleased with my results using it. Nothing wrong with the .270Win, just BTDT.
 
We could at least go province by province.

Although here is Sask the local inbred population , still using rabbit ears of course, would have to say it's the .303.

Another fellow last night came by while doing load development in a 7/08 , well, might as been a Hadron Collider we had on the bench.

Alberta I would have to say is 7RM.Other than that , the rest can let me know. :)
