Just purchased my fifteen year old son his first hunting rifle...a Henry 30-30 (brass with octagonal barrel). He's an old soul. His older brother has a .308 bolt gun with expensive glass, hunts with a compound bow, etc. The fifteen year old likes old sports cars and shoots a longbow. So the Henry was a given.
Had it out for the first time on the weekend...lovely little gun...he nearly had to fight me for it

My oldest loves the M94 30-30. He was going to pass on a range trip last week until I told him I wanted to shoot the lever gun. He jumped right up and was ready to go.

I didn’t even know this thread existed. I’ve had a 30-30 of some description since I was in my late teens. Currently I own a very mint model 94 that was made in the 70’s. It hasn’t seen the bush yet. It would be a disservice to that gun to keep it as a safe queen I think. But I’ll be pissed when it gets its first scratch just the same.
I’ve always had a spot for lever guns in my safe. Have a 450 marlin lever and a Henry .22 and a Marlin 56 levermatic.
Would like to try those lever shotguns some day too.

best kill shot i ever saw was a 170 gr hornady at 1850 fps out of my 11 year old sons stevens 325 he made a nice 125 yd shot the buck simply sank into his tracks

we used the 3030 alot on the trapline in BC killed several wolves coyotes etc even a black bear that decided to join us inside the cabin man that was loud! one cast bullet did the job
my personal opinion is 1800-1900 is the magic window

Savage 219 single shot, never owned a lever gun though. I have a good lead on one though, hope things work out to get it.

it's funny, because I will buy into all the reasons composite is better than wood (weight, durability, cost, consistency), but the second you put it on a lever gun I am not having it.
