The 30 M1 Carbine as a hunting rifle for big game

I have an unrestricted carbine and did purchase a box of 50 SP along with a couple of boxes FMJ. I still need to practice with her a bit more to figure out exactly where she'll print at varying ranges (since the sight elevations were made for the shorter barrel) and suspect that she could do a reasonably good job against coyotes in wooded areas where the compactness of design and peep sights might serve me better than my Stevens 200 in .223.

If magazine capacity weren't an issue, I'd also consider carrying it along in the woods as a last-ditch defence against charging bears and any undesirables wanting to forcibly detain anyone that chances upon their grow op. Having seen cut down-pistol versions of the carbine produced after the war, perhaps a Canadian company could produce a run of 10 round magazines for the M1.........

While I suspect that with practice that I could effectively kill deer within 50-75 yards, it sits at the bottom of the list of civilian and milsurp rifles that I have available for that purpose, including my 12 ga slug gun. I'd rate it as better than using buckshot and might consider utilizing it if I ever have a son or daughter that's a bit too recoil shy at 12-13 years of age to fire effectively with a larger gun, and even then they'd only be shooting it under my direct supervision. Until then, any talk of taking deer with it is purely academic.
