Definitely a legitimate concern however with that mentality, all of the guns in this thread are at risk so why buy anything?

My guess is that you personally have never been effected by a re-classification....once it happens to you a person is a little more cautious. Prior to C-68 is was legal to hunt with both AR-15's and HK 93's here in Canada. One minute you could and at the stroke of a pen, you couldn't.
The liberals and ndp have their sights on all semi's and handguns....choose your purchases and who you vote for carefully!

You're definitely correct. But the MH isn't derived from or built from pre-existing full-auto select-fire designs so isn't the MH in the same class that the rest of the non-restricted semi-auto black rifles are in? So yes, I agree that these guns can be taken away however, given the amount of unpredictability demonstrated by the powers that be, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. The bottom line is that high quality firearms cost thousands of dollars regardless of manufacturer or current classification.

The modern hunter will get scrutinized by the gun grabbers more so than something like a BAR or Win100....as far as for the already restricted semis, for me not interested at all. I will buy the MH after its been on the market for at least one full year and after the next election. I'd love to do it now but being burnt before makes me think it through more than I have in the past.

Thanks JP :d. The two things this rifle needs are availability of parts, and affordable mags. Otherwise I was happy with it and for the caliber impressed with the weight.

Well if we all quit buying rifles and pistols just because they might some day be reclassified then the anti's have won.
Ever heard the phrase "there is strength in numbers"? The more of us that own these rifles and stand up for our right to own them the harder it will be for them to take them away. Why do you think the RCMP chose the Swiss Arms? I'll give you a hint, in the 12 years they were available there were less than 1500 of them sold in Canada. This means that there aren't many people with a vested interest who would cry out and raise shat, I think they were surprised that so many of us stood up and yelled out that it was unacceptable and is why they went back on the decision partially. We still got screwed on that one but when we all stand together we make it very hard for them to take away our rights.

So go run and hide, don't buy anything because of what might be and soon there won't be anything left we are allowed to buy.
Personally I'm going to keep buying whatever I want and I'll worry about the day it gets reclassified when it happens, I won't sit quietly while they take away our rights.
5 handguns and 4 AR's means I have a lot to lose but I'll keep buying them and enjoying them while I can.

You've missed my point that I was trying to make....I'm talking about legal NR rifles that at one time could be hunted with as the MH is now....I don't need another range queen! I want something I can hunt with and if you haven't noticed, you still cant hunt with your AR's like you could prior to C-68. Its not about what you own, its about what you can do with them....So do what you want but I will wait until after the election. OH and being that c-68 restrictions are still in place....its not the gun owners that have WON, thats for damn sure!
I remember seeing ads in the hunting mags where HK was advertising the HK 91 as a Modern Hunting rifle....How did that work out once Allen and company got to work?

I bought an XCR-M today, really it was to prevent me from getting the Hunter (because it costs more than a grand more than I paid). I want to see what the M can do, and I like the parts availability should something go wrong.

I plan to post groups as soon as I can, and hopefully I can get a good load cooked up for it. I will be very happy with 1.5 MOA or better.

The MDR, no

As for their bolt actions Dlask arms has them come in from time to time and I hear the new Importer for DTA is Blue Line but that was posted by the old importer.........
 
I get about 3 MOA with south african surplus with a bipod and free-handing the stock. Also put 50 rds into a 5x4 in hole today. Pretty sure you'll get 1.5moa with decent ammo.

Well said CR5. We all need to stand up for what we want and believe in as responsible firearm owners.

The more of us there are with Semi.-Auto. Center-Fires Rifles (Restricted and Non-Restricted) and Handguns the harder it will be for anyone/government to take them away or allow them to become restricted or prohibited classed firearms.

The numbers of Restricted and Non-Restricted Semi.-Auto. Center-Fire Rifle (+Handgun & Rimfire) owners in Canada is huge making it a difficult task for our government to attempt any significant and negative changes (when C-68 happened the internet was in it's infancy, but now it is much easier to rally our troops to action).

Purchasing more of these types of firearms only helps our cause, but even more important is getting more newly licensed RPAL holders into the fold.

This is where the biggest help will come from, increasing our numbers of licensed firearms owners is key, so take a newbie to the range and let them use your firearms and soon they'll be hooked (I was able to entice two buddies at one time in 2014 to succeed in becoming holders of RPAL's, just by letting them try a 9mm handgun at the range. They now have #3 handguns and #2 AR's plus a few other firearms between the two of them already.)

If we all get our spouses/partners RPAL licensed (if not already) we are doubling our numbers which is what our government will notice.

Stay on point, by semi.'s (of all types & w/o fear) as it will help our cause and work at getting more people interested in becoming a holder of a RPAL...

No offense meant but you then bought the wrong gun.
The XCR has a TOTALLY proprietary everything, where as replacement parts for the Modern Hunter that are likely to wear are found anywhere AR parts can be had. Gas tubes, bolt parts and some furniture are all readily available from most retailers.

Being a small manufacturer, like Robinson, we decided that the rifles we build should still be serviceable even if we cease to exist, so apart from a totally proprietary upper and lower,just like Robinsons, which are highly unlikely to wear out in a normal lifetime, most other parts can be secured from other manufacturers, unlike the Robinson rifles.

I wish you good luck with your XCR.

I apologize, I did not mean to offend. I simply stated my reasons for not getting the modern hunter. I can't afford it at the moment, and would like to get one in the future. I appreciate your hard work and thought that went into the design. I have no doubt that it will be a popular rifle (if it isn't already!). My purchase came down to getting a used semi affordable (for Canada's standards) rifle that can be used for hunting, tactical style shooting, and some precision shooting at moderate ranges below 800yds.

I appreciate you defending your baby, but this is a thread on what rifle you bought or would buy and why. I am simply stating my opinion and my reasons for my purchase. Parts for Robinson rifles are available right now which means I can service it should something happen. Again I appreciate that your rifle can accept parts from ars so that should your company stop producing it, that it can still be serviced. Some people just cannot afford to buy a new rifle that fills the niches I stated above and still buy a decent optic to mount as well. I have waited years for the price of some used hunting cal black rifles to come down to the point where I can afford them.

I hope you can see where I am coming from. I am not saying your rifle is a rip off, it is simply out of my price range right now.

Again I love the idea and can't wait to see what your rifles can do!
