The .32 special

I can't find a pic of the mule doe with the .32, so here's a bad pic of one I shot with a .38-55 that I very foolishly sold(I will buy another someday!)

I shot the Elk in thick bush and very heavy rain. The 94 Winchester is a joy to carry and the iron sights work better in the rain than a scope.
PS..
Found one, again not a great pic.

What is the big panic about .32 Win Spl. ammo? CT here has loads of it as do the local LGS's... I have never had any difficulty locating ammo and it isn't much more expensive than .30/30 in the Win 170 Silver Tip loads.

I like my early 50's 94 in 32 Special. As far as I can tell ammo is not a problem and there were many of them made. I am a reloader. It is a fine stand alone cartridge but I would not own one if I had a 30-30 (not a collector). My pre-64 was in great "hunted a bit" shape and had a steel Lyman 66 on it. The Lyman was an after delivery installation due to the fact that the rifle was a little earlier than the factory drill and tap for receiver sights. That fact and the cartridge made the gun a nice price. The slower twist makes it a dandy cast shooter.

What's not to like? My 94 / 32spl was made in 1909, has the long octagon barrel and the factory tang sight. No need to cary extra shells in your pocket whit this old gal, it holds half a box.

It's still used here in Eastern Ontario.

Each deer season we sell two or three cases worth (20-30 boxes) to deer hunters.

And we always have ammo in stock. Hornady Lever Revolution is available year round from Hornady and Winchester does a run close to deer season (just pre-ordered two cases last week).

If you can't find it, you may want to ask your LGS to get some in. I suspect most don't carry it because of low/no demand (just like 7-30 Waters, which I also carry year round - sells at about the same rate - 20-30 boxes close to deer season).

A Winnie 32 Special was the first deer rifle I ever bought when I was a teen ; and I still have it . Seems to be lots of ammo around for it....but I seldom ever use the rifle anymore for sentimental reasons...

I used a Win.94 for deer in the early 70's in .32 and it worked well fer me. In the mid 80's I used a Remington model 81 in the rimless equivalant of the same cartridge. No worries with that combo either.:)

I use a well worn 94 in .32 Special for whitetail. I am at the stage where it doesn't matter if I actually get a deer, but I like to go out to my favorite old spots and stroll around. I just loaded up some cast bullets in some new WW brass for the old girl. Each year I have used the rifle, I take a whack at a rock at about 100 yards and I'm good to go. Looking for a nicely worn 94 in 30-30 to go with the .32.
