The .375 Ruger discussion thread

Nice, how do you like the hornady RN's? I havent seen many options locally for .375 300gr projectiles.

Unfortunately, my Ruger is still a game virgin. I did hunt with the RN's last year but alas......... Actually in the future, I'm more apt to use 250/260/270 gr bullets loaded fairy warm for their flatter trajectory. As accurate as the RN is, they basically have the trajectory of a tossed rock.

300gr NAB
RL-17
I worked up to 81.5gr with average velocity of about 2720fps

No pressure signs, but at that point I was wondering what was up, as there is no data for the RL-17 as of yet.

A sensible max might be 80gr for 2600 fps? Who knows?:p

I load mine with 80 grains of H414 and the 300 Hornady RN, it is a good load and shoots flat enough for hunting out to 300 yards.

A fellow on another forum got this result with RL 17

He also went up to 86.5gr with 2996fps for the 260gr Nosler Accubond

Hey Gate, do you know if this was done from a Alaskan/African 20/23" barrel or a custom job?? Very impressive to say the least. Were these chrony numbers as well you listed? Thanks.......

With my 21" barrel I'm getting 2800 fps with 270 gr Hornady Interlocks and 82 gr of RL17. With 84 gr I would bet that 2850-2875 fps is within easy reach.

That was from a 24" barrel.

All the velocity numbers were form a chrony, if that is what you mean?

Great thanks for the info fella's. I think it's time I get the 375 Ruger back into my safe and this time don't let it go.......

Was in wss this weekend seen they had a few boxes of factory rounds in, anyone one else seeing brass or factory ammo in stores around them ?

Jsut did a quick range trip with 250gr TTSX. Didn't bring the chrono, didn't have time...

Did a load work up with 82.5, 83, 83.5, 84, 84.5 85 gr H4350.

83, 83.5, 84, 84.5 all touched each other with a little vertical as the velocity increased.

Since I got such good accuracy with H4350 and 83gr/270 TSX and 83.5gr/260 NAB, I'm inclined to just go with 83.5 or 84 grains and call it a day. Should be about 2800-2850fps.

TTSX bullets never disappoint.....

The low and the high charge ended up on the left. Don't know why, maybe I was holding different or maybe it was just the way things work...but the 4 bullets on the right of varying charges demonstrate a load is in there somewhere.:)

Probably pick 84gr and keep it simple....;)

I'm seeing some mention of some shorter barrels here. Based on all the un-official testing, have we established a 20-21 inch barrel is an acceptable trade-off?

The wheels are in motion to build up a project gun in this caliber... it's either going to built on a classic FN Mauser, a left-hand Dakota Model 76, or a donor Model 77 Hawkeye stainless......

I've been reading about this round for a few week and impressed with it capability compared to the 375 H&H. Since the 375 H&H obviously has had a considerable history and exploits to it's name, I'm curious what kind of long range performance this round has. Has anyone CGNers taken any large game with the 375 Ruger at fairly distant range, past 500 yards, successfully?

BTW, I've been drooling at a Ruger #1 in this caliber.

I would say that the shorter barrels have proven themselves as being suitable for this cartridge.

My .375 Ruger is built on a FN(M98) action and has a 21" McGowan barrel. Velocities run around 2850 with 260 grs, 2800 with 270 grs and 2600-2650 with 300 grs.

I would
