The .375 Ruger discussion thread

Jsut did a quick range trip with 250gr TTSX. Didn't bring the chrono, didn't have time...

Did a load work up with 82.5, 83, 83.5, 84, 84.5 85 gr H4350.

83, 83.5, 84, 84.5 all touched each other with a little vertical as the velocity increased.

Since I got such good accuracy with H4350 and 83gr/270 TSX and 83.5gr/260 NAB, I'm inclined to just go with 83.5 or 84 grains and call it a day. Should be about 2800-2850fps.

TTSX bullets never disappoint.....

I loaded up 5 rounds of 250gr TTSX with 84gr H4350 and hit the range. Put up a target at 200 yards and took 3 shots:

Avg velocity was 2775fps, felt recoil was noticeably absent. I am sure if someone wanted to, they could go up in powder charge a bit if they wanted an extra 50 or so FPS, or use RL17 and get another 100fps, but I am happy with the accuracy, velocity and mild recoil.

Adjusted the sights on a 100 yard target to print 2" high and I am good to go. Took one shot with a 270gr TSX (2700fps) and it hits the same for windage, but a bit lower. Recoils more, too.

Next to try is the 350 Woodleighs when I get around to it....

Good shooting Gate! I'll have to wait till the end of June to try my TTSX out, as they won't be in till then. Would IMR4350 possibly have the same results as the H4350?? I know that they are very close in burn rate.

I'm sure IMR4350 would work fine. I prefer the H4350 because of it's shorter cut, makes it easier to work with. Also, H is part of Hodgdon's "Extreme" line which is supposed to be less affected by temperature changes.

Perfect thanks Gate! I'll burn up the IMR target shooting and buy the H4350 for my hunting loads. Now if the Mcmillan stock & rings to mount my VX-R would come in I'd be all set.:D

Omineca was out of brass the last time I called, but had some incoming.

Korth Industries has a few dozen boxes of Hornady brass stock, so any dealer that has an account with them can get some easily for around $54 a box.

In the end, I bought a bunch of stuff from Mystic Precision. Brass... 250gr. TTSX bullets.. Redding dies... Sometimes it's just easier to order it all in the same place.

I just bought a 375 Ruger Alaskan off the EE. I've been wanting to get one for a while but other rifles just seem to keep popping up first.

I pretty much hate the Ruger target grey coating on it but it's nothing that a bead blaster couldnt fix.

Going to stop down at WSS on the weekend and hopefully find some 300gr SGK's.

H4350 seems to be the powder of choice which works for me.

Just need to find a scope now.

.375 Ruger

Gentlemen;

I do not wish to burst your bubble or dampen your enthusiasm, however you apparently need a history lesson. The .375 H+H came out in 1912 and accounts for more firearms chambered in this caliber, every year, than all other calibers combined with a .33 bore or larger.
I do not wish to detract from the outstanding .375 Ruger, it is obviously a most efficient cartridge, but please, the new KING of .375. It's diapers haven't even had their first change. REMEMBER the .375 Wby or .378 WBY both going to make the H+H obsolete, didn't happen. Then there was the .358 STA going to make the H+H obsolete, didn't happen, how about the .375 RUM and so on and so on and so on !!!!
Do you honestly believe that if Ruger went broke tomorrow that any other manufacturer would pick up the .375 Ruger, I think not!! Isn't this REALLY the final test as to the worth of a cartridge?
I hunted last fall in Africa with a .375 H+H and my son hunted with a Ruger African in .375 Ruger. He used 260 gn Accubonds and I used 270 gn TSX.
We were both highly successfull and neither one of us lost any animals, great hunts!!! Please save your hyperbole on the .375 Ruger for 20+ years then tell me it's the KING, at best right now it's an illegitimate queen compared to the H+H.
This of course is only my opinion, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that I have fired more shells from .375 bore and up, than most who opine on this site and I'll pretty much guarantee that I have killed more animals in more places on this planet than nearly all of you.
As I said before it's only my opinion!!

;)Good opinion.

The 375 Ruger is probably a very good cartridge. One of my shooting buddies from the lower mainland in B.C. has one and was pleased to no end after this years results on Grizzly.

I smell troll.

Keep it out of this thread, as with calling the .375 ruger anything else than this, such as king, please.
