The 375 Ruger

I love it. Nice trigger and ridiculously accurate. With the B&C stock it turns into a cheaper Weatherby Vanguard S2 "range certified" clone.

Stumbled across a nice stash of 300gr Norma Oryx bullets that I'll be loading up for moose this fall, after having less-than-ideal performance from factory loaded Hornady 270gr SP-RP ammo (or as I now refer to it the Hornady 270gr V-Max).

Well, you can't argue with that accuracy! :)

Mine is a plain jane SS LH Hawkeye. Haven't hunted anything with it yet, mainly sees use as a backup, hiking or camp gun. It shoots the factory 270 grain load very, very well.

Nothing wrong with the plain jane :)

I didn't like the Hogue stock on mine so replaced it with a Macmillan, but to be honest I knwo it would have worked just fine in "plain jane" configuration. I'm just a bit picky. :)

We can also use this thread as a resource for all things NEW KING. I copied this from a closed thread, for some info if you are taking your 375 Ruger to Africa:

Since I'm sure some are interested , I've asked my African friends about stores that stock 375. Ruger products. Here is what they said:

City Guns in Cape Town, Wildman Cape, Safari & Outdoor Stellenbosch and I am sure plenty others too

WE DO, KOMANI GUN CELLAR,QUEENSTOWN

We do as well, Hotshot Arms & Ammo in Walvis Bay, Namibia

VLT, Safari & Outdoor and Zimbi Books in PRetoria as well.

Camdix Krugersdorp. Savuti Arms Brakpan ,Hi Tech Benoni. Most dealers stock ammo for. 375 ruger.

I don't know about hype or soon-to-be-dead cartridges, and I don't quite know what to make of Clarke's royal proclamation of the 375 Ruger, but I do know that mine is the biggest rifle I have, and I'm going to do my best to fill a good part of my new 22 cubic foot deep freeze with a moose this fall using it.

Attaboy! You will do well using the 375 Ruger! Hope you get your moose!

He would do just as well with a 7X57, or .280 or .30/06 or .300 WM or... the Old King or any of the other princes and princesses or other distant relatives of the royalty...

But sure... the .375 R should work too...

Yes, it goes boom like the others but it fills you with an aggressive satisfaction of recoil and puts a hole through an animal that you can see light through before it hits the ground. It is impressive but it still isn't as impress as the...358 Norma Magnum.

Sorry, I just had to throw that in there.

Hahaha

Hole you can see light through. Like that western movie spoof The Quick and the Dead :)

:)You make mention of one of my favorites:D. Helps explain why I have two, one of which will surely 'get the call' on my next Moose hunt.

Top, a Husqvarna model 1651
Below, a Schultz & Larsen model68DL.

I have a second on the way, Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS in a Boyd's Jacaranda. Should have it in a couple of weeks. Awesome cartridge.

I had one of these in 300WSM in the factory B&C stock, and it was one of my favourites at the time. A really nice rifle indeed.

Easier to find brass and ammo that way that's for sure. ..

Not hard to find. Norma ammo still available. From Lefty 338-06, prior to getting either of my rifles, I picked up seven boxes of Norma factory. In a trade deal at a local gun show, I acquired 50+ once fired and from Henry @ Budget Shooter supply, 100+ new unfired brass, 2nd stack tray down holds all my 358 NM brass. With my supply and as it's not difficult to find, I'm good to go for a l - o - n - g time:D.
