The 6.5 mania continues

Only so many standard bullet diameters to work with. Just keep putting bigger cases behind them. what else you gonna do ? :)

Grizz

A quick comparison of the case capacity charts shows it between the 300 WM and the 375 ruger and 300 Wby, non belted with 93 gns capacity and operate through an 06 length action means it has to be either on a 404 case or the Ruger case, or another completely new proprietary case. Interested to see which it is, my bet would be on a 2.5" 404 case and the capacity should be right there according to my math. A 2.6" Ruger case would yield almost exactly the same, but I'm betting they are avoiding the Ruger proprietary case. It is quite amazing that no manufacturer has played with the 2.5" 404 case yet it seemed like a natural, and yet they go full length in the RUMs and extra short in the WSMs and no one did what should have been natural with the 2.5". Well that's not exactly right as Dakota did but didn't hit mainstream with them.

If this is anything like the 6.5 X 55 I've been borrowing from a friend I am definitely going to buy one of these. Just have to get my hands on the super light 6.5mm bullets....

Or should I say that the wheel continues to be reinvented....

"It's interesting how some need justification for buying a particular cartridge when at the end of the day, there is no perfect, do-it-all cartridge. I bought the Creedmoor because it's new and fun to shoot......no other justification required. I'm sure there are lots of others that do things better and others that do things worse....the Creedmoor will do what I want it to do and really that's all that matters. I guess it does make for interesting internet banter though."

Maybe it will be new and fun to shoot like your Creedmor. No other justification required.

No doubt it will be and you are right that no justification is required....not sure I implied otherwise.

If it's based on the 375 Ruger, then 6.5-375 or 6.5 Ruger or something like that would be more appropriate. Necking down a cartridge someone else created and adding your name to it is something anyone can do - "25 Andy". (375 Ruger necked down to 25 cal). Done - copy that and I'll sue....

Now if this is an altogether new cartridge and adds more options to the wildcat scene, then that's interesting, and "Nosler" should be part of the name.

That just seems to be the way it is done. Look at the names if cartridges based on the. 308/30-06/H&H cases. Everyone gives thier version thier own name

There is a specific process for application to standardize a wildcat... At the point where all requirements are met, then the applicant can choose whatever name they want, including their own name... There are cartridges named after children, lovers, dogs, etc... I personally prefer a name with some historical and relevant significance.

I think that it will be an interesting chambering.

But in owning at least 6 - 264 Win Mags over the years,
I believe the velocity advantage is not as great as is claimed.

For example, in a 26" barrel, I regularly drove 125 Partitions to 3400 fps,
and 140's to 3200, using the old H5010 powder.
Today we have some even better powder choices.... so the 264 will be
no slouch.

But, it's a novel offering...who says I won't get one and try it out? :)

Regards, Dave.

This might just be perfect for loading up with 100 grain TTSX's and using on coyotes and small deer. Should shoot flat.

Kind of like the 260 remington, 7-08 remington and 338 federal. Or 7mm remington magnum and 358 norma. Or the 257 Roberts and 6mm remington.
